I don't think you have to have ridiculously expensive wheels to be considered an enthusiast - that may be more so an elitist. I've seen plenty of companies pop up overnight with their custom forged 3 piece wheels for $3k, $4k, $5k a set without any history or reputation to back it up. I wouldn't consider these quality wheels due to the fact that they are expensive wheels.
It's hard to go wrong with JDM wheels, you know the wheels are quality. There is a reason the OEM wheels are Enkei, Rays, etc. One of my TSW wheels recently cracked, so I moved on to a set of Work wheels. Comparing the two, the paint finish on the wheel and quality is a night and day difference.

Not sure what stocks you have, but my sport '12 are probably the best stocks I have owned...
And anything can be expensive, and still be ugly. For example, a lot of Work wheels...highly respected, good quality, but hideous as hell.

Stock is stock, that means everybody and their brother's car look alike. I don't like that, I want my car to make a statement. Granted, expensive wheels do not assure great looking wheels for sure. But their are some great looking quality wheels for under 2k, and I am out to find one.

And I agree with the price point you are talking about. I like the Avant Garde 3 piece, but don't want to drop that much on wheels. I am going with the Rohana RC10 or RC7 ($1600 staggered 20"). I am still undecided on which one. Look into those.

Love the RC10, solid look. I am looking for a machined face, chrome lip wheel. That is why I love the Vertini Magic. 1550.00 staggered 20". I think I am just going to finally order them. I have been playing around with this for too long, and I always come back to those wheels. Time to pull the string today.

There are plenty for under 2k...that can get you a lot of options in all honesty. If that's your price range, I would definitely knock Niche, Verde, Voss, Vertini off your list. Check around the other forums, quality used sets are out there and you'll be better off than risking a cracked junker in order to save $300.
