I cant even imagine manually, sanding the newer rims. I just bought the dremel sanding attachments, so I will go at it this weekend and post more pics next week

I think I was quoted the same for sandblasting, powder coating, and remount. Sand blasting was only 100 for 4 rims. I'm in the final stages of an almost, chrome finish, so I will get at it this weekend and have that result!

You really don't want to use sand for blasting. Glass beads or nut shells are the way to go. It's very easy to eat into the metal with sand. Been there, done that.
And, yes, the oven will overheat the wheels and ruin the factory heat treatment leaving the aluminum softer that original.

I found some conflicting information from a wheel vendor on rennlist :
-----------------------------------------
"Powder coat if done correctly is a superior finish than paint. It resist chemicals, scratches and chipping far better than paint. If done correctly as well, it does not impact the strength or structure of the wheel. 100% of our racing team customers run powder coated wheels and love the durability and easy clean up of the finish.
On the other side of that, we powder coat all of our product in-house and have complete control of the process. If you take your wheels to a finisher that does not do wheels on a regular basis, then you take your chances. Stick with wheel finishers such as Wheel Medic here in Ohio or Wheels America who has locations all over the country."
"Obviously I do not want to give away all our secrets, but the wheels need to stay below 300 degrees if possible. This can conflict with some powder coaters as the hotter they get the part the shorter it needs to stay in the oven."

I thought this was a good question, so I found a well known wheel vendor on NSX Prime who answered..
Re: does powder coating rims weaken them?
Re: does powder coating rims weaken them?
Yes.
The amount of basic heat required to powder coat a wheel is enough to pre-maturely "age" and weaken the metal alloy to the point that it is more brittle.
This is exactly why wheel makers like Enkei say that powder coating voids their warranty.
We're an exclusive authorized Enkei distributor...and I got that info straight from Enkei.

I had my wheels done. The guy I bought them from had plastic-dipped them. $300 carry in carry out. Hyper silver color that is UV stable, so clear coat isn't needed. Came out perfect.
I asked them about wheels and temps they use. He said they bring them up to temp slower and leave them in longer at a lower temp. A lot of powder coated wheels out there. I really don't think its should be a worry.
