Tire size and type help please
hey guys,
So winter is coming up and I need a new set of tires. I have a 09 g37x sedan awd. I am currently on all seasons michelin pilot sport a/s. 225/55/r17. I was wondering if anyone could help me find a set of maybe wider/bigger tires that would fit without me having to make any adjustments.
All in all, Im looking for help on wether to get winters or all seasons. I plan on getting rims after winter is done, so a nice size would look good. Also could someone list all the sizes of tires that would fit my car that would look wider and more flush.
Thanks a lot. Happy thanksgiving.

You're limited w/ those 17x7.5" tires, anything wider than a 235/55/17 will be a pinched mount which isn't ideal. You can add spacers to bring the wheels out closer to the fenders, like a 20mm spacer in front and a 25mm in back. For a truly wide tire setup I'd use your 17s for winter and invest in some wider more aggressive 18 or 19" wheel for the rest of the year.

The pilot sports are great a/s tires, i think the Continental DWS 06 is better in the snow and wet, but might not be as grippy or sharp as the pilot sports in the dry. I personally think it's a fine trade-off on a daily driver as all-seasons are all about compromise to begin with
I echo what others said above. If you want wider tires, get new, wider rims with dedicated summer tires and put dedicated snow tires on the stock rims.
Personally, having played with such things in my youth, I'm happy for the ride provided by the stock, higher profile tires. While wider tires on 19s look nice, they ride harder, and the added weight and rolling resistance don't do you any favors in acceleration or gas milage on a stock car. They also do worse in the snow and hydroplane more easily, which is why I'd recomend keeping the more narrow tires for the winter

When the time comes and you have a budget in mind post up what you'd be willing to spend (price range per wheel) and I (or other members) can come up w/ some ideas.
Keep in mind a square (all wheels/tires the same size) is an easier way to go w/ your AWD and you can do a true 4 wheel rotation to maximize tire life.
And Victory makes a good point, you can find some very nice 18s that will ride well and the tires are SO much cheaper than 19s, and 18s will look better w/ your stock height suspension too
Here's a good read for square sets
