G37X Coupe 245/45/18 - look good?

Hello.. My first post here but I have been visiting the site for 2 years now.
I am ready to buy my first set of tires for my g.
I looked through many threads and couldn't recall reading or find anything that would answer my question, besides I would like to have some direct input with the thread.

My Car:
09’ G37X Coupe

Refresher:
Stock rims 18x8 +43mm off set
stock tires 225/50/18
Stock Rims are 8.86” wide – or .86” past the rim lip

I want to buy the Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 245/45/18.
The 245/45/18 are 9.68” wide – or 1.68” past rim lip

Tire Rack link:
[URL="http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Hankook&tireModel=Ventus+S1+*** le2&sidewall=Blackwall&partnum=445WR8H452XL&tab=Sp ecs"[/URL]

My questions:
1) Will such a large overlap of tire over wheel poorly affect tire performance?
2) Is this much overlapping common?
3) Has anyone seen in person how this looks? Will the overlap look bad or better?

Thanks in advance.

You'll be just fine running those 245s on your 8" rims, many have done it, including me (245s on 8" 20s). Here's a good tire reference, page 4 about 3/4ths the way down has some good rim width caculators but the whole link is a great read IMO.

245/45/18 is perfectly fine on 8" width wheels. Remember the 1st gen coupes come with 18x8 245/45/18. Just google for stock photos to see how they look.

Thank you for the greeting.

Those links are a great reference. Thanks for all the help.

I just ordered the Hankook 245/45/18's that I noted in the opening post.

I will post some good before/after pics to help others with the same worries as me...

The bottom line, the 245/45/18 has virtually the same look as the 225/50/18.

The only thing I noticed is the 245/45 appears fuller at the top of the sidewall, while the 225/50 tread width is shorter, making the tire seem to be pulled in as you go from the rim up the side wall to the tread.
245 is definitively better. I would actually prefer an even wider tire.

As a side note: The Hankook ride is much more quieter than the stock Dunlop and the ride is much softer. It was so soft my wife noticed it immediately. Im worried as the tire breaks in, it maybe to soft for my liking. However,on hard turning it matches the Dunlop.

Bump for this thread.

Does anyone know if I can also fit these same 245/45/18s on my OE wheels on my 2010 anniversary xS sedan? It too has OE 225/50/18s. Just wondering. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I believe yours are only 7.5" wide (unlike the OP's X coupe that has 8" wide rims.) The 7.5" rims can handle up to a 225 width tire and the 8" rims minimum recommended width is 235. Your 7.5" rims are right at the cutoff point. If you do go w/ 245s on the 7.5 it will be a pinched fit meaning the sidewalls can distort under heavy cornering. for daily driving it will be OK but if you really push it you may have issues. Read this page, it's good info~

yup what Blue said...

Regarding the look on your car with new rubber, I bet it looks much better from behind with wider looking tires

Hey I have a 2014 Q60 Journey. Would 245/45/18 work with my car as well? I'm thinking about getting the Bridgestone Potenza Re-71R. Let me know.

Thanks!

Welcome to the site, same 18x8 setup, so a 245/45/18 would be the size to go with
