Rough ride Michelin AS3

got Michelin Pilot sport AS3 in 245 55 17. Thought i thought I would preserve the sport nature of the car but get a little better ride then the stock RSA's. Hence the AS3 over the Primacy MHX/V4 grand touring tire. the car now handles like its on rails. BUT! the ride is rough; rougher then i expected for a Michelin tire even though its an ultra high performance tire. Thinking the wider patch would improve handling and soak up bumps and the side wall is a little taller would improve the ride. don't know if the slight size bump is to blame or the tire.... road patches and joints are just as prevalent or slightly less then the RSA and they had 32K miles. Air pressure is stock at about 33 #.

Being a sport based tire the AS3 will ride stiffer compared to the more luxury sided Primacy. Add in the higher speed rating and wider size and that's where the stiff ride comes from. Moving into a sport based tire requires a compromise and that comes in form of longevity and ride.

The sidewalls on the Michelins are probably alot stiffer than the RSAs. My thinking that in time you will not notice it as much. Those are much better tires, so they will handle better and last longer than the ones you replaced. I believe they are some of the quieter All Seasons as well.

thank you Neal! Yes i had the Primacys on the Charger and they were superb. not as sport but butter smooth as expected. i was also thinking a 55 series tire would slightly soak up more bumps but in real world driving now i think a 50 series would not have been any different. getting used to the ride now and love the handling!
