Is there a such thing as an all around good tire?
I just got my G about a month ago and I am already hating the tires on them.
The tires appear to be fairly new, but they cause the car to roll a bit more than I like.
I have not driven a car with this much sidewall in quite awhile to be honest so maybe I am not being overly realistic. It currently has the 225x55x17 Bridgestone Ecopias on it now.
To me the tires feel just too soft on the sidewalls and will roll quite a bit if you decide to even think about driving somewhat spirited. I have noticed the car sways on the highway to at like 80-90 cruise speeds. Not sure if its the tire like i think it is, or the wind. I am more prone to blame the tires for the frequency this has happened.
So I am on the journey of looking for new tires and I have always found in the past that there has always been something you give up with each tire.
From what I am looking for in order:
- I would like some fairly well handling tires. I cannot fathom owning a sport sedan with tires that people put on Prius'.
- Must do very well in dry and wet all season. Extra bonus if they are on or above par in snow. AWD helps me out, but this means nothing if the treadblocks turn to bricks in the snow.
- Quiet ride. I have had some tires that get very noisy and it drives me crazy. I am willing to accept some noise, but nothing that is known to get noisy within 10-15k miles
- Tire life is last on my list.
So I see people praising these Conti DWS. I looked further into them though and people talking of the softer sidewall so i am scared to jump on them.
From what i see I cannot see reviews for an all around great tire. They either give up dry handling for snow, or snow for dry handling. Or noise for handling, or handling for treadlife. ect lol
GMaxx AS03 and Exta 4x looks promising also
Any suggestions from your guys preference over the years with these cars?

All-season tires are about compromise. They do everything "OK" but nothing outstanding. There is no such tire that has a stiff sidewall, great treadlife, low noise, and can run in the summer and winter. I think the Conti DWS is a great all-season tire from everything I have read.
I run dedicated winter tires (Michelin X-Ice2) from Dec. to about March and then summer/performance tires (Michelin Pilot Super Sport) the remainder of the year.

brizey, I was going to try tires first as all the reviews i see on these are for econoboxes. I think that was my first que after my initial road tests
I do plan on swaybars at the very least.
Erik M. Ill check out some of those michelins.
RKs, i was figuring that was more of the case, but it doesnt hurt to try some more research.lol. I dont want to keep wasting money on tires like I have in the past. I just want this car to drive somewhat like it was intended

If you don't like the car swaying, upgrade the car's sway bars for a stiffer ride. I have Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus's on my car and I love them. Plus, they have a 75k mile treadlife warranty on them.
I also heard great things about the Continental DWS. If you go on TireRack and read reviews, you'll find that both are very good all around all-season tires.

I just figured tires before sways because I thought the tires would still be the weak point.
Maybe I will think about this further. They look pretty new so I guess it would be a waste to not use them.

True, but sways will last the life of your car and is permanent (plus it is cheaper than buying a new set of tires. I got my Hotchkis Sways for $360 shipped plus installation for $80.) Tires do not and performance degrades over time.

You can get almost all of the things you asked for if you exclude snow from your list. Agree with the comment above that A/S is a compromise in *all* conditions. Good summer tires are actually better in the rain than A/S, and that would have been what I recommended had you not mentioned snow. You really need dedicated winter tires for good winter traction- is that not an option for you?

That said, really liking my Toyo Proxes4 Plus, great dry traction, stable in speed cornering, quiet, and performed outstanding on a 700 mile drive in mostly a constant rain for 11 hours. Good treadlife too!
Here's a review on a SRT/8 Mopar

I guess I can swap the ecopias back on for snow, but I didnt want to have to do the whole snow tire and swapping tires or wheels again.
I guess I will have to think about this a little more .
I didnt think an ultra performance would even be an option in a 55 series tire. To me that is a bit of a balloon so I figured an AS would hit most of my points.

I was wondering if anyone knows or has any experienced with Hankook Ventus V4 ES H105?
I had Hankook Ventus RH06 on my FX and loved them...I replaced the OEM GoodYear RSA's and it was a huge improvement.
I'm hoping that the V4 ES are similar for the G.
