TPMS Question

TPMS Question
Hello guys and gals, I'm new to this forum. Just recently picked up a 2010 G37 Sedan and looking to replace the wheels. I've already read that the TPMS system changed in 3/10 and my car was built 7/10 so I know I have the late model TPMS system. My question is, even if I were buying a used set of 19" coupe wheels that have late model TPMS also, would I still need to perform a TPMS reset when changing wheels or will the vehicle automatically recognize the sensors in the new wheels and work properly? Is a TMPS reset required even rotating the tires front to back?

My understanding is that the car only has 4 slots for the TPMS settings so if you introduce a new set you do have to reprogram. I run my winters w/o TPMS but my summers don't need the TPMS reset and are automatically recognized.
Rotating tires should have no affect as long as the 4 TPMS are the ones in the saved computer slots.

One last question if someone would be kind enough to answer, if the sensors in the wheels are from a pre-3/10 model, will I just get an error code telling me the TPMS isn't working, even after the reset procedure? Is there a way to tell which sensors are pre-3/10 or post-3/10 sensors by looking at them?

Here is the link to my pre-2010 TPMS, you might be able to read the numbers if you enlarge the pics.

Hey guys.
Just wanted to chime in here that if you were swapping wheels regularly (as stated above), there is a tool by ATEQ that will allow you to store multiple sensor ids. Then when you swap wheels, you can reset the TPMS system in your garage and be on your way.
Regarding the original question, you would be able to do the same with a second set (regardless of pre-3/10 or not).
Hope that is helpful.
