Wheel Alignment Survey

I am always curious on how often people do wheel alignments.

Many moons back, I used to do wheel alignment whenever I put on new tires. Now I don’t alignment the wheels unless there is tire wear on one side and/or steering pulling to one side.

The last time I did one was when my wife crashed the front wheels on the curb. All in all, I might have done wheel alignment twice in the last twenty years.

I only do it when I've had suspension work done or i notice something is "off." I think anything more than that is a waste of time and money....unless you have lifetime alignments. Speaking of which, I haven't found a place near me that offers it o.O

I have lifetime alignments through Firestone. They have a low profile lift and really do a nice job. Cost me $169 for the LA.

I believe the Firestone automotive in west town mall still offers them (or at least they did last summer when I last had an alignment)

I called them when I had my coilovers installed and they said they didn't, so I took to a place off of Whitney Way. I'll have to check back to see if they do.

Since I have lifetime alignment I do mines every 6 months. If not I'd do it at least yearly. Maybe 2 if I'm extremely lazy.

I just purchased a 2008 sport couipe and felt a slight pull to the left. The car has 4 new 19" Yokohama envigor's. It doesn't seem to do it all the time, which leads me to believe it's just the road surface.

^ I agree. There really is no need unless you change suspension geometry or if you hit something hard enough to cause them to go out of alignment.

Just so you know, Goodyear also has a lifetime alignment deal. I was offered one when I picked up a set of Eagle F1s for my S2000. I think they charge the price of about 2-2.5 alignments, give or take.

Unlike vehicles in the 70s, cars built in recent years have very little alignment issues.

I can’t attest to any benefits for doing routine alignments. IMHO the life time alignment deal is still $170 extra every “3-5 years” not counting the time spent.
