Wheel Width and Offset Question.

Wheel Width and Offset Question.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
I am thinking about getting some 19'' Forgestar F14 for my 11' AWD sedan but not sure what width and offset i should be going. I see alot of people with 9 front and 10.5 back does that sound right? Im going to be lowered on swift spring and i want the wheels to sit nice and flush and not tucked in, will i need camper kits for the front and rear or spacers to achieve this? And also what tires should i be running if i go staggered? Can someone help me out with these questions please, THANKS!!

I just ordered some new wheels for my RWD 09 G staggered but the same diameters & offsets should apply. I'm pretty low on coils and I definitely require camber /toe kits. I believe folks have gotten AWDs on Swifts in spec without camber/toe kits but it seems every vehicle sits slightly different when lowered so YMMV
My setup (as of next week) will be 245/35/20 on 8.5"x20" +40 offset
295/30/20 on 10"x20" +45 offset. This is for a rear flush fit and about 7-8mm recessed in the front (since the fender bracket/liner will rub if flushed at my lowered setting. Sitting higher you could go with a +35 offset on a 8.5" front.
You'll probably be going narrower in the rear (the 295s are about the max width you can run. A 275 rear you could go about +37 offset.
Since you'll be running 19s rather than 20s your specs may vary a bit but should be similar. Keep in mind 20" tires are cheaper if that makes any difference.
Here's a handy offset calculator you can play with to get you in your desired range, HTHs (and happy Thanksgiving to you )

^hey thxs for the quick response. I originally was stuck between the decisions of going 20s or 19s and FINALLY decide to 19s in the end after looking at alot of pics and reviews. I DD my car to school and i work 6 days a week. The roads around where i live and my daily commute arent the great with alot of dips/potholes and generally crappy roads. Im currently on the sport 18's and wanted to keep a subtle/comfortable ride while getting a better looking set of wheels. Ive looked around different forums for people with the same setup and luckily i was able to find a few and they all seemed to have went 19x9 Front 245/40/19 +38 and 19x10 Rear 275/35/19 +42. sadly i have no idea what the +38 and +42 actually means >.<. This is the first car that ive modded and just cant seem to stop! I just dont want the wheels to look like they are kinda tucked into the wells but sit nice and flush but not poking out or stretching the tires, do those specs sounds about right?

Intelligent choice to stick with 19s. Consider 255 up front with the same aspect. Your revs/mile will better match the rears (happier vdc), along with the overall diameters. But most critically, the inherent from the factory understeer will be considerably reduced... Doing 245/275 may actually make the understeer worse.

Good post. Learning a lot.
Tire calculator shows the difference between what you have and what you want. What numbers one should keep within in order not to rub/in spec..etc...if that makes any sense.
Good explanation on what is an offset. Why we need different offset(clear bbk)?
How's does changing wheel size affect the car (handling, speedometer, mpg, comfort...etc)?

From what i've read The bigger the wheel the heavier it is but not in all cases because forged wheels like VOLKS are lighter then traditional Cast wheel, Bigger/heavier wheels = greater unsprung mass, the weight of the larger rims and tires will decrease acceleration performance unless they are lighter than your stock rims. The bigger the rims the shorter sidewall on rims means that the tire cannot easily flex to ensure a uniform contact patch? BUT on the plus side 20's make your car look HOT and if you got the money u should look into a set of forged or multipiece 20's. I think 19's are a good medium between looks and perfermance. I am not 100% sure if everything i wrote is accurate but if anyone with more experience can share their opinion it'll be awesome, i am still kinda learning all this myself.

Thanks nycty. So size don't matter..hehe. its the added weigh going up in size that negatively impact the performance. If the bigger wheels were lighter than your old wheels it would improve performance. Got it, tks. Thought I read some where to stick with 18s for better performance. No idea what area of better they preferring to.
Would bigger wheel have any impact on ride comfort?

So would you say 19s would be a happy medium for style and performance or stick with 18s? I dont track but do occasionally have some fun.
