Sport model w Journey tires?!

I picked up my 09 G37s a few months back. Coming from a heavily modded talon on sticky PSS rubber I'm absolutely blown away by how terrible my sedan rolls. Coming on the highway banging every gear the car literally squats/wiggles left to right through 2, 3, and 4. I'm assuming its because of these crap tires the previous owner decided to install. The car currently sits on 225 50 18 Goodyear all seasons. I should have the staggered sport setup.

Do you think I'm feeling that extra sidewall deflection, or is there some other suspension issue you think I may have? I'm currently looking for work or else I'd have already dumped $1k easily on some PSS.

What are your thoughts?

could be the tires tram-lining but soft sidewalls suck. BTW the PSS are awesome, it's gonna suck going back to winter tread when it gets cold.

was your talon FWD? the G37 is RWD and alot more powerful. youre going to get more suspension movement and wheel spin with the G37. did you buy it from a Dealer? if its the 18s 225 50 is a stretch on the rear rim. it should be 245 40 18.

Something sounds wrong. The sport suspension is very tight. I've never experienced what you are describing, however I drive an AT, not a MT. I would start with replacing the tires with the proper OEM tires (or better) for the sport model to see if that is the issue.

talon was most likely awd.

G37S sedan should have 245/45/18 on the rear.

Yep, 225s on all 4 corners is not good, you need those wider rears to stay connected back there. If they're the Goodyear RS-As (and I sure hope they're not) you really need to save up ASAP and get rid of them. The RS-As are a truly horrible tire, they belong on a 4 cyl Camry or a G25, not your 37S. Do you have the 18" rims??

To clarify, I have a sport model 37. I have the stock 18" wheels with 225-50-18 Goodyear RS-A's on it. I think blnewt is dead on the money in his opinion. I agree that is what I'm thinking the issue is. No matter what I do, I can't make a flimsy sidewall tighter. So the question now is, splurge for different tires, or just punt these wheels altogether for some 20's from a GTR or something? I have some decent contacts in that area because of where I live.

AWD 2nd gen with full corner balanced coilovers, urethane bushings, large swaybars, bbs, pss rubber. Yeah, the G is like a cloud compared that thing.

Also, the G is no where close in power. Not yet anyways...

if you have the sport model (G37S, not just the performance wheel package), then you should have the staggered setup with 245/45/18 in the rear. either you don't have a S, or the dealer you bought the car from jacked you and put the squared setup on your car.

There's been a few that have tried the GTR wheels, I think they had a problem w/ the rears' offsets, puts the wheels too far out on the Gs. I believe a couple used all front GTR wheels and they fit in there. If you have the current ugly (IMO) 18" sport wheels I would definitely look for new wheels, the previous split 7 spoke 18" sport wheels look nice though. I like the look of 20s and although the ride is firm, the connection w/ the road, and the stiffer low profile sidewalls really improve the drive IMO. I've had 17s and currently 20s on my 09 and would recommend 20s for sure. I had 18s on my 07 G35 w/ Potenzas and that was a pretty good setup too. 19s would be a good compromise although the 19 tires are usually more expensive than 20s. At any rate almost ANY tire is a big step up from those awful RS-As, I couldn't even enjoy my G when I had them, I put 3k on them and that's all I could take, they, along w/ my 17s are sitting in my shed collecting spiders

Hold up a sec! The Talon pumped up 205 hp in 2.0 turbo form. 220 tq. Did you pump up the boost to a zillion to achive > 328 hp? I could see you maybe getting 250/260 tq out of a flash and a max boost increase, or a larger turbo, and the car is awd, which makes a big launch difference, and the car was lighter because no safety equipment requirements or airbags. So , yes, you may actually have had a similar power to weight ratio, but it was not a 'more powerful' car by any stretch unless you had something massive done to that engine. Or turbo.

And which turbo did you have the Mitsu 14b, or the Garret T25? The Talon was a handling monster though, one of the few american (it was Japanese, really, though) cars to ever win the SCAA championship.

And yes, if you have a 2009 sport, you should have 245 18 in the rear, bridgestone potenza, and 225 18 in the front. Otherwise, you (a) did not get a sport, or (b) the dealer jacked you, or the person who traded it jacked the dealer, and the dealer's used car guy didn't even notice that the previous owner had split with the correct wheels. It appears to be a conundrum wrapped in an enigma, surrounded by camouflage mesh and pampas grass.

I have to the The Guy to ask the dumb/obvious question but, you don't have an xS do you?

Apologies if not, and I wasted your time asking

Aahh! That would make obvious sense. Sport rims, 18s, but 225 all around.

well, the late-model xS has 18"s with 225's all around (and all the same width wheels), hence my asking
