V12 and RE760 are a decent choice but...

Another tire thread but hey, I am in the tire section

I have done a little homework (and ask a couple friend that have them) and I see that the Hankook V12 and Bridgestone RE760 have 'good enough for me' ratings. I can get them for ~$1060.00 CAN. I need summer tires for my new (used) wheels, size 245-35-20 and 275-30-20

....what about the following specific tires? Any one here used these. Are they good or bad? Please try and keep it about these tires.

Falken FK452 - $840.00 CAN
General G-Max AS03 - $950.00 CAN
Sumitomo HTRZ3 - $960.00 CAN
Yokohama S-Drive - $1,050.00 CAN

I don't drive hard or track and I have winter tires on my OEM wheels.
TIA

I have S-drives and they are pretty nice. Good dry and wet traction and much quieter and comfortable than stock Bridgestones. I've also heard good things about the General G-Max. I'm not a fan of Falken tires from my past experiences. They get noisy and start to cup.

An old C&D or R&T test had the V12 besting the Falken and Yok's. Hard tire to beat for the price/performance

Have you looked into Continental Extreme DW?

I bought a set and will install this spring but based on research they are a great performing summer performance tire. Tire Rack testing and customer reviews are extremely high. Consumer Reports also recommends this tire as a "recommend" purchase.

They are cheap from the Tire Rack for about $167. I purchased a square set 245/35/20 and can't wait to give them a try. I will post feedback when I am done.

Btw Consumer Report has this tire on par with the V12's but Tire Rack testing and customer reviews have it rated higher overall. They also have a higher wear number.

I also received a quote of $1428 installed for the Continental Extreme DW. That's for 2@ 245/35/20 and 2@275/30/20.
I figure the tires are so closely rated on many tire sites (with a slight edge to the Cont) that I would just prefer to save the $190+hst difference.

BTW - Tirerack costs $1450 which is a little more than the tire guy in Toronto (considering shipping, HST, Duty and brokerage fees) and this Tirerack price doesn't include mounting, Roadforce balance and installation.

It pays to shop around. I have never had a problem, yet, finding a local tire shop that could not match or beat Tirerack. I show them Tirerack and 1010tires price and they do the rest.

Hey Neil,

I am not too sure on the re760. Tread life is crappy and the tires are way overpriced. I like the aggressive tread pattern on the Ventus but am thinking that the DW has a slight edge based on research. I guess it is preference too.

DW has had great reviews also, so I wouldn't shy away from those. Won't last as long as the 760, but will ride quieter and last a tad longer than the V12's.

How do the DW have a shorter wear life when the indicator is 340 and the re is 180?

My re I only got 35000 km on.

Hi Guys,

I decided to go ahead and ordered the V12's. After speaking will Allen he said it's OK to mention where I'm getting them at this price.
It is Simply Tire in North York, Toronto. Give Allen a call.

Here is everything from the email he sent me:

Falken FK452 $840.00
General G-Max AS03 $950.00
Sumitomo HTRZ3 $960.00
Hankook Ventus V12 evo $1,050.00
Yokohama S-Drive $1,050.00
Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport $1,070.00
Continental Extreme DWS $1,140.00
Continental Extreme DW $1,240.00
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus $1,350.00

- All tire quotes in this email include mounting, balancing, new valves, and installation.
- Prices do not yet include 13% HST or $5.84 Tire Tax.

just drive down to Dunn tire in niagara falls, NY....(if u are close by) ....the V12's are about $870 plus tax for the four.....leave ur old ones there and voila...no duty...

Everytime i need tires its what i do...always save alot...then u stop by the casino on the way back to lose what u saved on the tires :0

It would be difficult for me to drive there on 20" rims that currently have no rubber on them
I don't mind the $175 difference. I'll save that in gas and time and have Zero risk of being dinged for extras at the border.
Right now I'm on the 18" OEM's with winter rubber mounted.
