G37s Winter tire questions

Hi new G37 owner here glad to have found a great online community for this amazing vehicle.

I ended up buying the G37s at the beginning of this month. (Blue Slate, absolutely love the car).

I'm looking for some advice on buying some new rubbers for my first winter in the 37s. (No stranger to rear wheel drive MT in the snow, I drove a 1990 toyota pickup 5MT with FAR less weight on the rear wheels for 7 years in Alberta winters.)

I have been reading and researching for the past few days and there seems to be two ways most people go.

1. run 225/45r19 and 245/40r19 on the stock sport rims

2. buy 18inch rims and run something like 245/45r18 all around

Couple of questions:

1. I found a good deal on 4x 225/45/r19 blizzaks (95% thread $650 for all 4, local sale); could I run this on my stock rims in a non staggered configuration? If this is possible would you reccommened spacing the rears so they don't look strange?

2. Would running this configuration interfere with VDC or ABS?

3. Pro vs Cons on 19 versus 18 besides tire cost higher on 19? Anything else to consider?

If I end up going with the staggered configuration it will cost me 1200 as the guy will not split his 4 225/45s up and will have to buy new.

Thanks for reading and giving a newbie 37 owner some advice!

I'd go with the square 225 rather than the staggered. For snow you want as narrow a tire as possible. My sedan came with 18" staggered (same width as yours). Running 225/50/18 all around right now, no issues.

$650 is a real good price for wheels and tires (tpms included too?) or is that just tires? If the latter, price out what a new set of tires would cost. If price is marginal, i'd probably go new. 225 might fit on the rear OE wheels, but would be stretched somewhat. Recommended width for a 225/45/19 is 7-8.5". I believe your rears are 9 or 9.5"?

Also, 18" would be safer and give you more cushion for bumps/pot holes, not to mention cheaper tires.

The price I listed was just tires, which for Canada seems to be a good price. The listing doesn't mention tpms so I assume that it is just for a set of tires. I'm quite sure OEM sport coupe recommends 9" rears.

18" does seem the more attractive setup but honestly for the extra price I would have for a set of 18" rims I will probably be ahead with the 19" on OEM rims.

Still undecided and would like some more feedback. Thanks for the quick reply Jsolo!

I did just what you're thinking of doing: Bought after-market rims and tires for the summer and had Kal-Tire in Calgary install 19" Blizzaks on the OEM rims.
This is my 3rd winter and I drive the car all winter with no problems.
Check the price of tires at any of the big tire shops (Kal-Tire, Fountain, etc.) I chose them over Infiniti because if you buy tires from them, they'll swap winter for summer (and vice-versa) for free. Infiniti Calgary charges for doing that.

Did you straight swap for OEM tire size winters? Leaning towards bitting the bullet and doing this.. I have heard that running skinnier is better for snow though.

Went with 225/45 - very good so far. The skinnier the tires, the better.
