Sports Tire Recommnedations

Hi,

I have a 2011 g37S and it has about 20,000 miles. The tires seem worn out and I think i need a replacement. Any suggestions for new sports tires? I dont like how the stock sports tires can't be rotated. Are there any good sport tires that I can rotate and get a little more mileage than 20,000 miles.

Thanks!

In general, high performance and long life don't go together when it comes to tires =/

The fact that you got 20,000 out of the oem tires is considered very good.

Since your car is an S, the front and rear rims are different widths. This means that unless you get different rims, you will be unable to rotate your tires.

If you are looking for performance you should go with Michelin Pilot Super Sports, hands down!. (they will however be deadly in the winter - but since you have an s, I suppose you already have a dedicated winter set since your car comes stock with summer tires) They are also known to have significantly improved wear life compared to previous generations and definitely compared to our stocks.

To go for longevity, you would have to do with some long life all season tire. Just be forewarned that you will lose a great deal of performance and handling as compared to a dedicated summer tire. Even the best all season tire can't lay a hand on the performance of a summer tire or the wintertime grip of a winter tire. Jack of all trades, specialist of none =/

Also, a general rule of thumb is that you lose warm weather grip as wear improves and you lose wear as grip improves.

If they're in your price range I would buy the new Michelin Pilot Super Sports. They're supposed to have a pretty good thread life without sacrificing the performance. If want to be able to rotate them you are going to have to go to a square set-up. I like staggered better.

I would also strongly suggest the Pilot Sports, I will be picking those up once my Bridgestone RE760's are done....hopefully in another 10,000 miles. Already have close to 7 or 8k on them. I would also recommend as another good option the Conti DW, they have gotten great ratings, not as good as the Pilot Sports, but given the cheaper price tag they are something to consider.

I know a few people that with living in rainier parts of California, and some parts of Southern FL get the Conti DWS just to have something better for extreme rains or heavy downpours.

What everyone mentioned is on par...

I'm a huge fan of 960 Potenzas (although I hear they're now 970 Potenzas). Summer "high performance" tires go out way too quickly. the 960/70's have a 40k mileage warranty AND they're decently sticky for an all season.

I just got the Potenza 970's and I'd have to say I'm a bit unimpressed. They handle fine but actually are a bit louder on the highway than my ****ty 40K mile old Dunlop's (factory AWD tire).

I like the Conti DW, but it doesn't come in stock front size (225-50/18). Too bad.

Pilot Super Sport is probably the best max performance summer tires right now in our size, followed by the factory re050as.
