Tpms 315 mhz

So, I'm curious what variances TPMS sensors have from manufacturer to manufacturer (infiniti, dodge, etc.)? I understand there are different frequencies, believe the infiniti is 315MHZ, but what keeps a certain 315mhz sensor from working with another 315mhz car?

The oem ones are 315mhz. Even though others will be same frequency, they are programmed differently for each car. If every car had the same brain box they might be universal.

Also the transmitter in a TPMS is very weak. The other car would have to be rubbing you to even mess with your readings.

Can they be re-programmed to the infiniti?

That's not the issue. I bought a set of wheels that have 315mhz tpms installed. Trying to find out if they will work.

Wheels yet to be installed..

There's handshaking and authentication keys involved. I'm sure it's more complicated than this, but that's the general idea.

On a previous bike, it had a sort of smart key system. No fob, no start. On more than one occasion, when filling up at mobil stations that supported speedpass, I had difficulty if the bike was too close to the pump. Had to roll it back or forward away from the antenna, then it would recognize the fob - google KIPASS if you want more info.

Just take them to any tire shop. For $20 they will try to synch the sensors and you will find out before swapping them out.

If you have the tpms sensors on your car's existing wheels then you can copy the sensor ids to new set of TPSMs - need to have TPMS id reader/copy programming tool. Once ids have been transferred then the wheels with new sensors will work fine- that's what the tire shops do.

Would this be the same for aftermarket TPMS... such as those produced by Dorman?
