black chrome rims

I recently bought a used black 2008 g37 but it came with chromed rims and I don't like the look of them. I was wondering if anyone can direct me to a good place in southern california to either unchrome them and make them back to stock or to redo them with black chrome. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Is it a stock wheels but in chrome? or aftermarket in chrome? You can let the shop paint or powdercoat them in any color you want.

yea, stock wheels in chrome. I understand that I can have the shop redo it in black chrome. I was actually looking for recommendations for good shops in southern california to do this repainting.

I suggest you have them powder coated. Powder coating requires that the rims be sand blasted prior to the powder coating. This will remove the chrome finish, as well as most surface scratches and scuffs. There are countless colors you can select from for the powder coating, such as gun metal, black chrome, etc. It's way more durable than paint. Plus, the cost is not much more then paint.

I got quoted at $200 to remove the chrome and $500 to paint the rims black or gunmetal with a "hard bake finish." The shop said that this is better than powdercoating because the wheels are aluminum-based, and when aluminum-based wheels are powdercoated, the temperature causes the aluminum to be brittle, as well as a more uneven finish than painting.

He said that the painted "hard bake finish" looks and lasts much better than powder coating and doesn't compromise the aluminum because they have control of the temperature and do not require to go as high of a temperature as powder coating. Is there any truth to this and is there any reputable shop that I can do this for a better price for in southern california?
