Does wheel size have to do with ride comfort?

I want to get 20" wheels for my 2011 g37 coupe but a friend told me I will lose ride comfort. I'm thinking of doing an eibach drop with it. So my question is will I sacrifice lots of comfort if I get 20's?

title should be does wheel size affect* ride comfort

You'll sacrifice some ride comfort. You will have a shorter, stiffer sidewall that won't absorb bumps and irregularities as well. Wider tires will tend to drift with ruts in the road more. And when you drop it on stiffer springs it will definitely not be as cushy but will gain a bit of handling capabilities. It's a trade off. How much comfort you lose is subjective. It's not too much for many of us, some would rather keep the stock ride that's a little sporty and pretty comfortable.

With lowering springs, your ride will usually stiffen up a bit. But I heard with Eibachs, your ride will be pretty much close to the stock sports suspension, just a tad bit stiffer. As far as 20" wheels, your tires will be "skinnier" so you won't have as much sidewall to cushion your ride. As Black Betty mentioned, it's a tradeoff and ride quality tolerance is totally subjective so only you will know. It will, however, decrease ride quality and comfort a bit.

Thanks a lot guys, I guess its worth it to sacrifice some ride quality for looks. Just dont want to be bouncing all over the place

You won't bounce at all with stiffer springs and lower profile tires. It will make it stiffer, not softer. No homo.

I'm On 20s with the tein s-tech springs and I didn't notice anything. Only on hard bumps/dips it feels stiffer. But with the wheels going from 19-20 I felt 0 difference. I am running a 35 series tire all around though,

Oh well of it's only on bumps and dips I can care less... I will be getting my tires in 30 and 35 so hopefully that's wide enough. Thanks guys

There will eventually be bounce due to stiffer springs on factory shocks.
And yes the ride will be firmer, as Said above. You have less side wall and you're stiffening the susp

Yes wheel size affects comfort in a big way even more so than switching oem springs to Eibach and if somebody tells you otherwise that may be because of road conditions. I'm in Canada where winter is hard on roads and truck weight limits are higher than in U.S, perfect combo for Bagdad roads. I did the switch you're thinking about (vossen cv1+Eibachs). I ran about 2 weeks on 20" before putting the Eibachs on and let me tell ya the car was completely unrecognisable. Handling much more precise and sensitive but comfort went down a lot. Eibachs didnt stiffen the ride that much. I dont regret a single minute doing these mods. I cant stop staring at my car and to see people picking up their jaws from the ground when they look at it is priceless. I'have a couple of storys coming off playing golf with people i dint know, when they saw the car in the parking lot mouhhaaa!!! Go for it!!!

That gunmetal finish is sick ^, lets just say I drove my mom in the car and she didn't complain about the ride quality at all. Nor did any of my friends.
