G37S losing appeal after 2nd tire rotation

I had my 15,000 mile multi-point inspection done last Friday and when I drove the car away I noticed an unusual road noise which sounded like it was coming from the front left tire. At 50mph it was so bad I could hear it over a loud radio.

I took the car back, one of the service reps rode with me. They switched the 2 front tires back and the sound was still bad, along with a slight vibration in the steering wheel. Took it back and they switched the 2 rear tires back.

So now, the tires are just like they were before I brought it in except I still have this louder than when I brought it in road noise. The service said he heard it and said we could switch the tires with a brand new set of rims from a car on the lot, just to see if this is indeed a tire issue.

Anyway, I was out driving around today and my car just doesn't seem to have the same appeal it has with this loud road noise. It drives me bonkers! Especially when I know it wasn't there before I brought it in.

Any one else experience this?

I had a similar issue in my G37 coupe and it turns out my front right hub needed to be replaced because it was worn. Make them find the issue and fix it. If it wasn't doing that before you brought it in, it's most likely something they did. You also might want to look into getting your tires road force balanced.

Trade it in for a Lexus ES350. Problem solved.

ok so, you're an "S" right? I don't understand why you'd be rotating tires in the first place on a staggered set..... why

^they rotate side to side and they say it is recommended every 7000 miles, but I am not the expert on this. I have to trust my dealer to do the right thing.

As for the suggestion from wzupdoc on getting a Lexus. No chance in Hades. They are way overpriced and don't look sporty enough for my taste.

I'll get to the bottom of this eventually. I'm taking it back this week. I must point out that other than this issue, the G37S sedan is one fine machine.

I agree with MOB. Unless they swapped them left/right. Are the stock tires directional?

If I had an ES350 I would fall asleep and run off the road.

The tire rotation requirement says that "S" models are exempt since they're staggered and unidirectional. So unless your dealer removed the tires from the wheels and remounted and balanced them they put them on backwards if they did rotate them.

It sounds like you're dealing with idiots. The wheels on my G37S are both directional and staggered, which means no rotating the tires. Who knows what they've done.

Do you have the stock R050 Potenzas on there? 15k miles on Potenzas is about the point they start getting ready to be replaced. Some get up to 20k on them but most are ready for the dumpster around 15-18k. If they are 050s they're NOT directional, only outside biased so they can be flipped to the other side for a semi-rotation.

Yes, Infiniti of Charlotte. I must say I've always had exceptional service there in the past, even when I had my '05 G35. And I will get to the bottom of this, I promise!

So, the consensus here so far says they should not be rotating the tires, not even side to side since they are staggered and unidirectional.

Again, if they're Bridgestone Potenza RE050 then they can be rotated side to side, they're outside biased so just taking the right wheel/tire and putting it on the left still retains the outside bias, no need to remove tires & remount.

If they're another brand that IS directional then of course you'll have to remove and remount the tire.

I'm not saying that a side to side rotation is all that beneficial, but it is better than just driving them till they wear out, you should get enough extra mileage and smoother wear to make it somewhat worthwhile.
