Tires in those classes offer the best mix of daily drivability, moderate a/s traction (in the a/s class obviously), wear, ride, noise, dry/wet handling, etc.
Hmmmmm. That rules out:

Yokohama AVID Envigor
Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring
Michelin Primacy MXV4
Michelin Primacy MXM4
Bridgestone Turanza Serenity

All of which fit our ride and scored pretty high across all categories (except winter/snow) in the survey results.

If it's any help, Bob, I had the 17" tires on my last G, an '04. I used the Yokohama S Drives and I agree with Neal, they are a great tire as far as performance, noise and treadwear go. So good I got them a 2nd time.

I've got about another 3k to go on the current tires. I think I'll go with 245's.. Still not certain about brand.

I went with the 245 50 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on all four. Many of the comparisons focused on the Pilot's price running over $1,200. But, now prices are under a grand and I knew the tire and brand, so I went with them over the DWS etc.
After 4-5K miles, I'd give them a 9.5 out of 10. The G, even with the RSA's, was a fun ride. But, I much prefer the car with Pilots. The wider tread, in my opinion looks better on the car too. In short, for me, the hours of reading forums, internet searches and my personal past experiance with Michelin Pilots, gave them a small but important edge over the other 245 / 50 225 / 55 tires I compared. My thanks to those fourum members that posted on this subject before me.

@Boomer-Bob - how is the wet and snow traction on A/S plus? i cant make my mind between AS plus and DWS. DWS is cheaper but side wall being soft and not getting performance compare to AS plus makes me thing to get AS plus. But DWS is cheaper and has good wet and snow traction which is important to me where i live.

I haven't used them in snow. In what rain I've seen, they were very good. TireRack has good comparisons based on what I've read. Maybe a forum member that has used them on snow will post?

did you use stock OEM rims for 245/50/17? and how is the clearance. any rubbing on high speed or sounds coming from tires?

Yes Maxsaint. I used stock non-sport wheels. The 245's are not that much wider, fit fine for me. No problems. Much less road noise than the RSA's in my opinion. I've heard the DWS and the Hankooks are good too. Depends on your driving and likes.

I ended up getting the Yoko YK580. TR doesn't sell them, but they have great specs and great price and so far I've been very happy with them. Was a little iffy in the first 1,000 miles but that was likely break in.

I'm sure the leading tires in this class are all very close, and some a little better than others. I'm in Dallas with snow/ice maybe 1-3 days a year, mostly just hot temps and rain. Anyway, they are quiet and grip well, I can barely break them loose, unlike the RSA's.

I went with the stock 225/55-17 size, not sure if they offer the YK580 in the 245/50 size. I decided to go stock since I didn't like my speedo being off even 2 mph, or the possible slight loss in mpg with a wider tire. Didn't want to mess with the handling, either. Would love the wider look but may do that some day with wider tires AND wheels.
