review/opinions on a new tire (tirerack chime in too)

General G-Max AS-03

General Tire G-max AS-03
- UHP A/S

It's new and I see no reviews. Has anyone heard anything on this tire?

Just came out a month or so ago so we haven't had it on the track yet. I've only sold one set so far also. As the spring/summer goes on we'll have more test results and customer feedback on them.

Stay tuned!

Thanks Neal. I just clicked back on the link and looks like one guy has reviewed the tires so far and given the G Max very high ratings. I also noticed that tirerack did do some wet road testing listed in the "tests" tab on the site

I see a few differences between the Conti DWS and the G Max.

1. Conti DWS is $25 more per tire
2. max load of the DWS is 1709 versus 1653 on the G Max, but both are W rated tires
3. I am not seeing any stats listed for the G Max on tread depth, revs per mile, etc though the G Max is showing to weigh 1 pound less per tire than the DWS

will the max load of the G Max be an issue on my G37x sedan?

Do not see any load issues using those on your X. All General has given us spec wise so far is an 8.5" tread slab. Once more trickle in and my warehouse staff catches up we'll check the stats and publish them.

Neal, what are your thoughts on the general exclaim UHP tire? Good bang for the buck?

Great wet but lacks in dry and can be noisy. Many, if not all, of the sizes are also being discontinued so I'd look at something else.

Wow, discontinued, I thought people liked them. Oh well. Any recommendations for something in the same price range with decent performance and longevity?

20 inch staggered. Don't know the size yet but I'm thinking about 245/35/20 or /245/30/20front's and 275/35/20 or 275/30/20 for the rears.

I'd look at the Hankook V12's or Conti DW. Both are great tires and have been well received by my customers. Conti's will be a bit better dry and quieter, V12's a tad better in wet and little less money.

According to some reviews on the DWS (not sure if applies to DW too), but the DWS seems to be getting some knocks for a mushy sidewall.

The DWS is an all season tire and does have softer handling compared to the summer tires. The DW is a totally different experience.

The G-Max replaces the Exclaim's

I vote for the V12's, the only issue with them, if i have to nitpick, is that they're rather heavy compared to others tire makes of similar sizes. I have about 25k on my set right now, still at 6/32nd's.

Hi Neal -

Any update on these tires?

BTW - General is a Continental brand now, correct?
