Steering wheel vibration

Steering wheel vibration
I just noticed my wheel shakes a little bit when driving over 70mph. I just recently switched my tires to continental DWS with the alternate sizing which are bigger than the originals. Is anyone else noticing this? Could it be from the bigger size tires or should i get it looked at?

The new setup is most likely out of balance. Ive had success taking them to a shop that can do a road force alignment, using something like a Hunter GSP9700 (you can go here to find a local shop that has one: Hunter GSP9700 Wheel vibration Control System solves wheel vibration and tire pull problems that balancers and aligners can)
You can also try taking it to an Infiniti dealer, they did some sort of advanced balance on the wheels on my car (brand new, had a vibration), they talked about "RSV balance" and there are spec values that the tire/wheel needs to be within. One of my wheels was way out of spec......rebalancing it fixed the issue. Im just not sure how much they would charge

I have a 2010 G37x-- Love the car, but I've had a significant cabin vibration in the vehicle since I got it (17k miles ago). It occurs between 58 to 63 mph - and smooths out until I hit about 78 mph-- then the vibrations is noticeable in the windshield (rear view mirror vibrates-distorting image). I've had it back to dealership -- rotated tires, rebalanced tires, and last time they did an alignment... still annoying- again, this is more of a cabin vibration (some does come through steering wheel, but mostly felt through foot pedals and seat).
I absolutely love this car, but what an annoyance (BTW: Runs great/real smooth at 90+ !!). Any thoughts?
Thanks!

The vibes were coming thru the steering wheel as well, but they were most noticeable through the brake pedal. It would vibrate at speed even without engaging the brakes. At about 80 or so the vibrations would get bad enough to vibrate the rear view mirror.
In my case it turned out to be a bad driveshaft.

Well I just had the same thing .... rotors were out of round. There is TSB on it that was applied 11K miles ago. Problem was rotors had already been turned down twice (original owner once and then I did when they applied the TSB). I argued with Infiniti that because of the issue, and the rotors being turned down twice (at no fault of my own) I shouldn't have hit a rotor replacement at this point of ownership. Basically they sort of agreed and while they didn't foot the whole bill (new front rotors, new front pads, 4-wheel balance), I paid half and they paid half. Car is so smooth now, back to being a joy to drive.

Chris:
Thank you for the response-- (at least the dealer won't think I'm nuts next time I go in to see them). I talked to another guy about a similar problem (in a AWD), and it turned out his problem was the drive shaft (out of balance).
Thanks again for the info...

G37 AWD- Vibration at Highway Speed...
My car had a similar feeling vibration even when new. It also had a sort of oscillating noise (kinda like a faint "wuh wuh wuh wuh..." that varied with rolling speed).

Thanks Chris - for the tip!
BTW: The technical bulletin is # PD11-001 Reference: ITB11-019 March 4, 2011
NOTE: I traded for a new 2012 G37x-- and wouldn't you know it, the same EXACT problem-- took it right back, talked to the tech-- he was familiar with my first encounter... it is now fixed. C'mon Infiniti-- I really expect more from your high end vehicles... I WILL NOT BUY another...

Glad I could help! And thanks for the update.
interesting thing, that bulletin. It didnt exist when i brought my car in, and my car was built before October....makes me wonder if they knew something was up. I do know the tech said Nissan was telling him to perform some test on the driveshaft, but he leaned on them to get a whole new replacement because the car only had 500 miles on it.
I googled the number quickly, but couldnt find any specs on the bulletin. if you could somehow snag a copy, Id appreciate it! Just to read what they have to say about it. if not, no biggie. Hopefully this cures your issue! I can tell you it surely did fix mine, the car was smooth as glass at 80 mph
Thanks.

Chris- send me an e-mail address to mps@bettcher.com. I send you a scanned copy. I sure hope this works; still waiting on the parts.
Interestingly: The TSB says- "If you confirm one or more during highway speeds":
A vibration felt in the seat and/or floor (yes); Inside rear view mirror vibrates, causing blurred reflection (yes); Vibration heard from rear parcel shelf (no?); Booming noise heard (yes- could be the "wuh, wuh, wuh" that I hear constantly)...

As far as the symptoms, I can tell you that my car did not have a rattle from the parcel shelf. It did have the other symptoms (I didnt necessarily feel the vibration in the floor, but I did feel it A LOT thru the brake pedal, so probably the same difference)
I found an abstract of the TSB on the Infiniti tech site, but it didnt seem to indicate any parts needing replacement. What parts are they replacing on yours?
BTW, Nissan/Infiniti must have come up with the name rebro joint for themselves....Id never seen it, the only Google hits on it point at Infiniti (AWD M, to be exact), but sure enough its there in the M service manual.

I have this same vibration issue with my 2009 XS sedan and just had my rear driveshaft replaced. Unfortunately the vibration still exists at speeds around 80mph. Have there been any other updates or other owners experiencing this problem?
