18" Rims/Wheels and Potholes

So I definitely like the Coupe better than the Sedan, but the Coupe only comes with 18" Rims and can't be replaced with 17"s.

I live in Chicago. Bad winters, and even worse potholes.

Does anyone else have the couple in a bad weather or horrible pot hole type city and what has been your experience?

obviously hitting any major pothole even with 17's is probably going to cause damage, but how much more likely are 18's to be damaged than 17's?

Thanks guys.

I don't think it will make a difference. Stay with the 18s, the car looks better and it will handle better.

I'm just worried about being stuck with 18"s that have a higher chance of being damaged and being much more costly.

Are the tires on the Coupe low profile, and can you get non-low profil, even though low profile looks much nicer.

I don't think you should change the size of the tires. It will take a big pothole to damage the wheels, and probably it would damage either one equally. I have 18s in NYC, believe me it doesn't get worse than NYC, and I don't have any problems. Of course I have to be careful, but that should be the case with any wheel size.

Chicago is probably on par with NYC as far as potholes and bad weather, so I'll take your word for it.

How does it handle in the snow? Obviously in a blizzard like you guys just got isn't a good test, but in rain, snow, etc.. how does she handle?

Live in Chicago... drive around a lot. I have 19" oem sports on and no dents. Try to be aware of the road and you'll be ok.

I slap on blizzaks on 18s for the snow. Drives decent.
