Plasti-dipped rims, next step...

Hey everyone - so awhile ago I asked for some input regarding powder coating rim colors. Lots of people said black/flat black so I figured I'd try it out. I've never really been a fan of black rims (particularly because around here all I see them on are beat up civics with mis-colored bodykits and such) but I figured I'd give it a chance.

I used plasti-dip since its not permanent and easy to repair/remove (Side note: This stuff is amazing, if it peels off you can spray it back on and at the end the wet spray levels out as opposed to drying as a blob like paint does). I gotta say, I actually like how it came out! I'll probably get them powdered once I finish all my exterior mods.

Anyway theres still a few more things I think I need to do to finish the look I'm going for. The bright red lights don't seem to flow right so I'm looking to get my tail lights smoked a little bit, similar to this http://www.wannaberacer.com/tint/tint36.jpg except glossy not flat. I've used VHT niteshades before on my previous car, but it came out darker than I'd like for this application and I don't think I can spray it on that light and have good coverage. I also tried the lamin-x overlays but they're just impossible to get on right around the ends.

Should I just bring it into a body shop and have them do it? Or is smoking it just a bad idea in general? I'm also looking to add in a spoiler to cover that chrome one. Is the OEM spoiler worth it or what's a good alternative?

Thanks!

I paint lights for some extra cash, I use nite shades too, it takes a little practice to get down, I asked around and I guess that's what all the shops use too. You have to hold the can 6-8 inches from the light, and do each coat quick. The photo looks like 2 coats should match that. Then go with 2 coats of clear coat, be careful cause in my experience clear coat drips easily and if you go too light it'll look flat, hope this helps but paint looks much better then vinyl.

rims look great. If i had that color g i would definitely do my rims the color you did them. I have a black one and a few people recommended me to paint them anthracite color so i'll be doing that probably in the spring just in case the winter here in philly comes strong and i mess my rims up thanks to ice lol

I bought vinyls from bluebatmobile.com and the vinyl is great but i would definitely get it painted gtr look or the two coats to have that glossy look...love the car!
