Creating the illusion of a lowered car??

I was considering putting standard RWD springs on my G37X (sedan) because I was told it would lower the car about .5". Now, in order to make it look like it is lowered a little more, would it make sense to put larger DIAMETER tires on the car to get rid of the wheel well gap? I'm thinking if the standard tires are 26.9" diameter, if I went with something around 27.3 or so, it would lessen the wheelwell gap another .2" and raise the car up .4" (remember, it was already lowered .5") so, in essense the car isn't actually lower, but the wheelwell gap would have been lowered a total of .7". I would have the same ground clearance for going over speedbumps and into driveways, but will have the better look. What do you think of this?

I think its a good idea, But I also think it could look very weird. Trying to lower the car in that way just to get the look i dont think will work. Im very interested in seeing how this turns out if you dont mind doing a DIY or somthing.

Yeah, i'd like to do it, just worried that I might not have enough room in the wheelwell. It seems like people are putting VERY wide tires on these cars so the room should be there, and I am just looking to put 255-40-19 all around on 8.5" or maybe 9.0" wheels.

If I can find the right wheels, i'll be happy to give it a shot. I have something similar on one of my other cars. It has .5" taller tires on it and it gives a better ride, more ground clearance, and looks pretty good as well. Unfortuantely, it also gives slower acceleration (taller tires and more rotating mass), but that is a tradeoff I am willing to take.

Yeah might not look so good. How thick were you looking to go? 55?

It would help with the wheel gap, but putting larger tires would actually raise the car off the ground. I don't see how lifting a car slightly would give the illusion of being lowered.

Actually, the car will be lowered .5" with springs, and then raised back up .2" (my addition above was off). So the car will actually be slightly lower, but perceived to be even lower since the wheel well gap will be lessened by .7" total. Does that make sense? And I would use 255-40-19 so they aren't big sidewalks at all.

I'm thinking it might work... Photoshop might be a way to prototype?

It happened to me last year when they replaced the tires on my Benz SL500. Somehow they made a mistake and put next size taller tires on it. It looked really bad. I think we create the low look with the lowest tires possible. Otherwise it looks like a mistake. No offense to all of you who had installed the 24's with the motorized centers- that is styling, that takes some guts cause you are going all the way!

No, just no. I can promise you it will look like crap, you'll lose performance with bigger tires, and your speedo will be off.

Just get lowering springs.

mine w/ the stock wheels on it.

but this is your car dropped.

you're more than welcome to come out after the newborn arrives if you have time. We got plenty of AWD lowered sedans at the weekly Wednesday night meets... we usually have 30 cars out

btw, congrats and thanks for coming by picking up your new car!

Thanks Kenny,
I'd love to drop my car but it seems that the Eibach's and the Tein's do not come for the X, and they drop the car unevenly. Also, they drop it much more than I want it to be. I already have one low car, don't want my DD to be too low too!!!

Hopefully i'll be able to stop by some wednesday night and take a look.

Thanks for the well wishes and i'll be putting up a post shortly. Already got the car fully detailed and ready for some pics, just gotta find a time to get out and TAKE the pics!!

If anyone is looking for a Infiniti, don't hesitate to contact Kenny!!!!
