In a 245 width, did you go with the 55, or 50? I'd rather do the 50 to keep it more low-profile but I'm not sure if that will make for a smaller diameter tire.

26.64" the 225s are 26.74" or a diameter difference of .38% well within the 3.0% allowable to keep your ABS/Traction control funtioning properly and you'll get very little speedo error (when you're going 60mph you'll actually be going 60.2mph w/ the new 245 size)

I have the W*drives. They are pretty good in snow. There are probably better tires for actually driving in snow, but most of the time there isn't snow on the ground here. I've been pleased with them overall. I'll be changing to the S*Drives once the temps actually decide to stay above 40.

Well think about it. When your car is braking or taking a turn, what does AWD do for you? At that point it's ALL about the tires and at that point it doesn't matter if you're AWD, FWD, or RWD.
Really, the only advantage an AWD car has is pretty much for acceleration. Even in that situation, I know that a good set of winter tires will beat out most all-season AWD cars in acceleration and definitely in braking and handling (which is where safety kicks in).

It'd be highly recommended to get 18" or 17" wheels as these will give you substantially better traction in snow and ice. In addition, life will be much easier if you just get a set of winter wheels. They will prevent salt from getting on your 19s and will making changing your tires a much easier and quicker process.

If you don't use the throttle in corners, it's all about the tires and suspension. If you do, it's also about the drivetrain and AWD can have advantages. Now, you have to ask yourself, "Do I feel like using the throttle in corners today?". Well, do you?
