Longest treadwear tires?
which 19" tires out there have the longest life for average conditions (work commute, weekend trips, long highway trips etc, no track but occasional 1/4 mile street runs).
There really doen't seem to be much info out there.

All tires are consider a compromise. To get more of something you have to give up something else. I would say your bet is to decide the category of tire you want, and then go to the Tirerack and read the surveys and their test results.
Summer tires are the best handling tires but have the shortest life span. But unless you take you car to the track you don't need the best handling tire. One of the mid-pack or lower tier summer tires will still handle very well and give you better wear. And in the real world you will not noticed the difference in handling, but on a track you will. So for street use these mid-pack tires and lower tier tires make the most sense.

Yes, it may happen only once in the time of your ownership, but the reasoning behind it is the same. The airbags may only be used once, but we all have them for the same reason, and airbags cost a HELL of a lot more than tires.

I didn't say he should buy a no name crap brand tire. But the difference between a top scoring Michelin summer tire and let's say a in mid-pack tire like our stock Bridgestone's REO50A is meaningless in the real world. Unless you are one of those idiots that think our public roads and HWY are his race track.

I challenge you to find me any tires that have a lower treadwear rating that is a "top scoring summer tire". Yeah, they do not exist.
Is treadwear the best way of measuring grip? No. Is it generally a pretty good indicator? Yes. In fact, your "top scoring Michelin summer tire" aka Pilot Sport PS2 is rated at 220 treadwear.

RE050A's are hardly a mid-pack tire. They are rated at 140 treadwear. They come OEM on virtually every performance car, in some variation or another. Mazdaspeed 3? Check. BMW 3? Check. Infiniti G? Check. Ferrari F430? Check. Hell, lets take it up a notch. Ferrari Enzo? Check.

Decide the category of tire you want, summer or all-season, and do your search on the Tirerack website. Read the surveys and test results.

They are mid-pack if you see where they fall into the Tirerack's survey. And if compared them with the current new performance summer tire they probably do worse. But in the streets, in the real world none of this matters. It only matters on a track. Here's a C&D comparisons from 2005 where they compared REO50A with other tires from the same category. And Mike you are right. They weren't a mid-pack tire. They finished 9th out of 11.

Oh, I think you forgot to read the article. The RE050A scored low because 1. its expensive, and 2. it has low treadwear.
Your posts all indicate that you are repeating what you read, and go by hearsay; I have actual experience with the vast majority of these tires.
Again, higher tread life = diminished handling and braking performance.

Higher thread like does diminished handling and braking. But in the real world on our streets, unless you are one of those idiots who think it's a track, it makes no difference. On a race track you need every advantage you can get, you don't need that on the streets!!!!!
And why didn't I buy a BWM. Because there's no shame to finishing in 2nd or third or fourth in a C&D comparison. All the cars they test are good. And I know the G came in 2nd in the last 2 comparisons.
But if I was buying a car strictly for track use and I had to choose between a G or a 3 series I would of bought a BMW. But in my real world, with my wife and kids, I need the extra space the G provides and all the extra goodies I get for less money compared to the BMW.
But you don't need NAV or back-up camera, and you don't need the bigger back seat for a track car. If fact the G is too big and heavy to be a good track car.

Have you ever slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting a kid running across the street? Have you ever slammed on the brakes to avoid that idiot backing out of their spot/driveway without looking?
I don't know why you keep saying that people only slam on the brakes at the track. Real race cars don't have ABS. You can't slam on the brakes unless you want a flat spot.

so which tires have the longest treadwear for 19" i to am interested since i just commute and rather spend less on tires and more on carbon fiber :P
