-does anyone know if these are clear coated and I can add a layer of wax or sealant on them?

..i already searched the forum and google and cant find a straight answer.

The spokes are cleared, but the rim section is not. You could wax the spokes, I just wash mine often with a mild detergent and use a detail spray on them to keep them fresh looking and somewhat protected.

Clean them with the same type of shampoo as you would on your paint. Use Migliore Wheels Seal or PBW Wheel Sealant to protect them - they both work equally well. They help protect them from grime and brake dust, and also make cleaning them much easier.

but can I use the sealant on the barrel/lip of the wheel even though it is not clear coated? want to make sure the sealant will not mess up the matte black

You can use wheel sealant on every surface of the wheel.

I have a set, and I'm going to straight out tell you that the barrels are a b1tch to maintain. I usually spend about good 1~2 hours per wheels and get to every little seams and edges. It is a major PITA for sure.

Forgot to mention... the paint on the barrels are also very thin and weak. They are very easily damaged if not properly taken care of. This is the main reason why I'm getting my barrels refinished soon.

well i just hit a big pot hole and guess what.. my lips has chunks missing from it now. had them for 1 week!!!!! i guess thats what happens with 30 series tires on northeast roads. I put some matte black paint so I will see how well that covers it up

So we can disassemble the spokes from the barrel? I thought that was a no-no??
I need to get my barrels refinished as well. The matte black paint it came with is a big failure. I'm seeing more and more paint chip off.


that sucks man. Let us know how that matte black paint works out.
BTW, is there a touch-up paint we can use for the matte black?

The paint on mine has come off in large (pea size) chunks around where the rim spokes come close but do not touch the rim. I could understand if I was hitting it with 3000psi pressure washer but it was a garden hose for gods sake.
When mine get real bad, maybe after this summer i will break the wheels down, remove the centers and have the rims powder coated satin black.

i put some matte black paint I used to paint my grille on the wheel. It is def. not the same shade but it covers it up somewhat; better then seeing the bare metal.

i thought you couldnt take the face apart from the barrel because the torque specs arent released for the screws when putting back together

I got the Phantoms and they have held up pretty good, but was considering doing the barrel gloss black maybe cuz the matte black finish is hard to keep clean, I know in general it's a tough wheel to keep up. Gonna tak them of this week and do a thurogh cleaning.
