Looking for suggestions

I have a new 2009 G37x sedan with the stock 17" wheels and tires. I would like to put on some 18" or 19" wheels and tires and need some suggestions. I know I want to stay with an all season tire but beyond that I am flexible.

Assuming the same tire, how much would the ride change going from a 17" setup to a 19"? I do not mind a slightly firmer ride, but nothing too drastically different.

I tried looking in the classified section for used wheel/tire sets but most sets look like they are for coupes not AWD sedans. If anyone can point me to specific f/s threads that will work for me, I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Ryan

Ride will stiffen a bit from 17 to 19. If you still want to retain some ride I'd do a happy medium and do 18. Best tire selection will come from 245/45-18. As far as an a/s tire in that size I'd look at the B-Stone RE960 A/S and Michelin Pilot Sport AS+.

Update

I went to a local custom shop and they are recommending a 20" wheel/tire combo. The rim size would be 20X8.5 or 20X9 and a tire size of 245/35ZR20. The two rims I picked out were made by Ruff Racing and Verde.

I am under the impression that the setup they are recommending will reduce some of the wheel gap I have on the G37x, but not eliminate it, is this accurate? Should I consider different sizes rim/tire sizes in the 20" size if my goal is to decrease wheel gap and increase handling?

Any opinions of the Ruff Racing and Verde rims? They look nice to me and are affordable, but I am a newbie to this all.

Thanks for your help

20s will for sure take up some of that wheel gap but not get rid of completely..you'll need some Eibach springs for that.

Not sure about Verde but Ruff Racing's are kinda cheap (knockoffs) but if you only care about looks they'll work fine..

What's your budget, you may be able to find better wheels than Ruff or Verde.

+1 on what TJ said. I'd get 20x9 at least.

I played around with the tire size calculators and the overall diameter of the wheel and tire will not change if I go with what the local guy priced out for me. So I would still be left with that horrible wheel gap.

I see that the Eibach springs are not too expensive for the parts, how much can I expect to pay in labor fees to have them installed?

When you say that Ruff Racings are kinda cheap, what benefit would I get by moving up to a more expensive wheel, such as Volk?

Spring install should be anywhere from $100 to $200ish.

Going with Volks would get you a major thing: QUALITY.

The quote was for around $1800 for wheels and tires with all labor. I had various choices on tires and his quoted prices for those looked similar if not cheaper than tirerack.

I would like to stay under $2,000 unless you think I can sell my stock rims and tires for something decent.

Thanks for the quick response. I apologize for asking newbie questions, but that is what I am:P

When you say "quality" - what does that do for me. Are we talking longer lifespan and increased performance?

No worries. We were all noobs at one point

Yeah quality = Good parts and good craftsmanship which = good performance

There have been many horror stories of guys that opt for cheap wheels and end up having them split into pieces while on the highway which could lead to WORSE circumstances.

Any suggestions for a manufacturer that is better than the quote I got but in a lower price range than the Volks?

2000 for wheels AND tires, may be a little tough since tires along can be around 600 for a set, which would leave you only 1400 for a set of wheels.

Yup yup, Gamedog has the best 3 choices for under $1500/set for wheels only...

There's Axis too but I think those are cheap (quality)

What size?

I like the looks of the Forgestar F14, now the question is what size, offset and what color?

I am planning on having the Eibach springs installed soon (as soon as I can find a good local installer) so take that into consideration when recommending a wheel size.

Just for reference, I have a 2009 G37x Sedan in Liquid Platinum without the sport package.

I appreciate all of your continued help
