I appreciate the comment, but I assume The Tire Rack disclaims all responsibility for problems or damage caused by using other than stock sizes.

All I am saying is that deviating from the front-rear tread width differences may cause problems. Or, it may not. I don't know. But, I would not assume it won't without getting clarification from a Nissan engineer.

That's part of my point. That the front-rear grip relationship will change by increasing the treadwidth of the front tire. And, I have no idea whether this change will lead to problems with the sophisticated suspension/brake electronics.

 

If that is the case, then all the people who went with wider tires should have problems right? I don't see people having such problems (or none has been brought up), maybe just more over-steer with the same front width tires as rears . . .

 

+1, IMO the 245/275 combo yielded the optimum balance of understeer/oversteer, if you plan on modifying, bear in mind:

Wider fronts => More oversteer
Narrower fronts => More understeer

Wider rears => More understeer
Narrower rears => More oversteer

 

Not exactly. The issue is not tire width, but the relationship between the front and rear tire widths. People going "Plus Zero" (245/40/19 fr and 275/35/19 rr) are maintaining a fr-rr tire width difference very similar to the stock difference. People putting 245/40/19 tires on the front are matching the fr-rr tire widths and eliminating all fr-rr differences (stagger).

 

If you have reservations then leave the car as is.

Assuming the electronics are the same, and I will assume they are because the 19" staggered combo is standalone option on non-sports package cars, people may be okay running 245/40/19 all the way around on sport wheels. Good catch.

Should be here next week...once I get some miles on them I'll let you know what I think...

 

Any reviews of this tire yet? I just went in to get an alignment and the guy recommended these tires to me. They are about equally priced as the S-Drives on tirerack. Only problem is that the rears won't be in until 10/10/09. Even the shop didn't have these yet as he said they are pretty new.

 

5000 miles on them now. The tires handle great...no noticeable difference on dry pavement...but aren't as good in the rain. They break loose quicker on wet roads... my guess is because of the longer tread wear rating...probably a little harder rubber than originals...although I haven't had any hydroplaning issues.
Nice to have same size all around...will be rotating soon which you can't do with OEM's.
The tires are quiet so far but so were the re050's until they got more miles on them. They seem to be wearing well but difficult to tell at this point.

I am in the process of buying 245 all corners for my G37S wheels as well, and I have the same questions that you had; like if there is any negative effects on the 'engineering' side of things if i were to put 245 all corner. I guess this thread help answered my questions. How's the cornering wit the wider tires up front? Does the steering feel heavy? Thanks!

 

No difference in handling and definitely no "heavy feel" you really won't notice any difference driving the car. EXCEPT...if you nail it going around a corner in wet weather. It will lose traction quicker than with original tires...until the traction control kicks in...it really depends on how you drive...

 

hi, sorry, one more question. With 245 all around, do the tires up front make it obvious that the front wheels are narrower, due to the fact that the sidewalls stick out more, or you can barely tell the difference? Any picture that you can share? Thanks.

 

Great thread. I just hit the 18K mark and I do notice my tires are a bit louder than before. I still have at least 25% tread left, so it'll be another year or so before I swap mine out, but I was wondering whether or not there would be any way to get the same tire sizes for all four wheels. Now I know.

DEC, one question though. Isn't it a pain to "rotate" all your tires? I'd hate to have some dude mess up my rims while taking a tire off, especially since you're doing it so often (by the way, how often do you rotate...I usually did it every other oil change for my Accord).
