What does it take to get a 4"+ lip on the back of a G37S...

I'm curious to know what it takes to get a 4" or bigger lip on the back of a 20" wheel on a G37S. I know they accept higher offsets then the g35 coupe and dont hae as much room, but here and there I see people with 20" wheels with 4" or even a 5" lip like 305 G. he stretched a 255 tire though. I'd much rather have a 265 or 275 on an 11" or 10.5" rim though. Just looking for some insight... Thanks in advance

forgot to add...but this is the difference in cheaper wheels and expensive wheels that are multi piece and custom built..not that there anything wrong with a cheaper wheel, but if you want what you want and dont want to settle then u must spend more cash to get custom wheels

Why? You should really pay attention to tire specs. I don't think there is a single 265/275 tire out there that will safely mount to an 11 inch rim.

you can mount a 275 for sure to a 11'. i ran 285 on an 11 and it was very little stretch.

Again, its all in the maker of your wheels. mine are 3.5 with a 10.5 but can clear my 4 pot rotora rears that i was running. If i didn't want the bbk clearance i could of had a 1/2 to 1" more out of it.

You pay to have sick wheels. there is a guy on g35driver who does some serious stuff with offsets. i think his name is rob or something.

But why? I can understand wanting to get the widest rubber under the rear and also maxing out your lip but why do you need an oversized rim? You're just adding more rim towards the inside of the car which can't be seen and is not good for the tire.

For example: If you look at NJlakeshoreG's tire specs of 285-25-20, the recommended rim size is 10.5" (which he has). Now let's say his wheel tire combo is right on and there is no more room for the tire to come out any more. If he is maxed out to the outside edge (fender), what good is an 11" rim? He already has as much tire and lip as possible, what good is more rim?

more rim more lip. depending on your brake setup, your stance and everything else, the only way to get more lip is by getting more rim.

i agree not always the best way but if you want the most rubber you need more rim

I understand that last part, "if you want the most rubber you need more rim", and I agree. But I don't think I completely agree with, "the only way to get more lip is by getting more rim." Isn't the max lip dependant on 1) fender clearance, 2) location of wheel mount, and 3) wheel design?

it is but also on what brakes and your suspension. you can get a lot of rims with the right offset that give you the most lip. again, its all about test fitting and knowing your drop and everything else.

Yeah, I think this is the guy you're thinking of. I don't even have a 35 and I've been following his threads! The car is incredible!

he is one of them a few other guys have use the same offset king to help them with their wheels. running insane and i mean insane offsets and lip sizes.

one thing to keep in mind to, is that you don't want to have to run to much negative offset. you'll eat up your rear tires in a hurry.

some people like to use a smaller tire then wahts needed, they "love" taht stretched tire look...so dont be surprised to see a 255 on a 10 or 10.5..lol..and thats not a joke...they are not the most performance oriented people, jsut want the look thats all...
