I am getting a strange flaking off of the OEM wheels. It seems like a light powder coat coming off when I rub the wheel with my fingernail. I first noticed it with a small light scratch and it just kept peeling. Is this a factory coating that needs to come off? If not, I would have to consider it a defect . I have two 1-2 square inch areas on each of the rear tires now. What is your experience?
was the wheels hot when you touched it? the coating was probably weak from being hot, just my guess.
No this is more like overspray. I would say its like a bad repair/repaint job but some of it scrapes off with a fingernail almost like dirt but too tough. Possibly baked on brake dust but not like I have ever seen.

That's what I was thinking. I bought the car as a demo with 3K on it. They already replaced one front wheel for a bad gouge. I hope they don't think I did this in the last 6 weeks.
The dealer looked at them today while I was there getting a new muffler (Rattle). They said sales would call me to set up refinishing. I asked for new wheels but said as long as they match the front in color and finish it's ok with me.
I was thinking I would let them do the refinish and if it was not perfect, then I would complain and get new wheels. At least I have it all known and they acknowledge they need to fix it.
