I had to pay ~1600 to get a complete set, mounted & balanced. Average prices at the time were ~320 for he fronts, and ~380 for the rears.
I did a search on tirerack. For replacement on the front:

Rear:

It seems the dirt-cheapest tires would be those Kumho's, which would still be $700.
It's still completely ridiculous to me how much these things cost. I paid $280 for a complete set of tires on my wifes car, and she's gotten 30K out of them.

As someone above pointed out; $1,200 for four. But, they will give you the most performance and life at a cost less than other high performance tires.
I always find it interesting how many think "hey, its a black rubber donut, they are all the same, just get the cheapest donut." Usually, 1) those people have no idea what goes into the development and manufacturing of a tire, and 2) forget that the tire is the only item on the car which actually makes contact with the road.

the Michelin PS2's are not exactly cheap, but I went through my OEM set of bridgestones on my G35 in 11,000. The second set of bridgestones lasted around 16,000 miles driving carefully, which I was told was about the right amount to be getting out of those tires. My final set of tires on the car were the PS2's and they lasted for about 22,000 miles before I was told the wear bar was showing and it was getting dangerous to drive. So my vote goes for the PS2's

Of all the things that you can buy for your car, the is more variation in quality in tires than anything else. It really pays to educate yourself. Low price definitely does not mean best value. I've gotten 30,000 miles out of F1-GSD3's, makes them look damn cheap by comparison.
