Tire Feathering

Since the front tire feathering had plagued most the the G35 Coupes since the 03 introduction through 07 I have been curious to see if the G37 will have any issues with the front inside tires feathering. Of course most owners have not accumulated many miles and the uneven front wear on the G35 Coupes usually became evident around 7-8000 miles. How are your front tires doing?

7500 miles here and no evidence of tire feathering or the associated tire noise.

That's a good sign. The place to look is the inside of the front tires. You can turn the front tires all the the way out and feel one side at a time. Looking can be deceptive. Rubbing you hand across the circumference of the inside treads will help you feel any cupping or feathering. If there are no signs at 7500 miles you should be in the clear.

I have no issues with an extreme drop and extreme hard driving. I have a track day coming up I am going to put a few laps on the stocks before switching wheels with the pilot cups on them...

You guys also have the luxury for the non staggered setup of rotation yes? Lucky you! I wish I had that option. Would have saved me alot of grief.

I am commited for my next purchase of avoiding the staggered setup for any car I buy.....even if it means going quattro in Southeast Florida. I find it very pricey for tire replacement as well as a headache for purchasing tires in pairs instead of sets. I saw that the G37 offered the non staggered set up for the basic G37 due to the issues on the earlier G35s. I assumed they wanted to give owners an option this time due to so many tire complaints on the earlier Coupes. If I were considering another Coupe I would take that option, knowing what I know. It's still a fairly good value although the pricing is creeping up.

After 1 year of the G37 on the road, has anyone experienced any irregular front tire wear, especially on the insides? In addition, any middle tire tread wear on the rears? These were 03-07 Coupe issues and I was curious to see if Infiniti might have finally resolved these issues.

At 19k miles on the stockers (except for one that was replaced due to a puncture), no uneven wear at all. You can see the wear due to camber, but it's not over the top. No feathering either. If you keep the tire pressure at 35ish, the tires hold up like a champ.

It hasn't been on the road for a year but I'm at 8,000 miles, don't notice any feathering compared to my G35 tires, which I still have in our hangar. We shall see how well they hold up, many have posted about getting over 20,000 miles on em no problem, others have not been able to make it past 10,000. I plan on getting my car aligned this coming week so I'm axious to see just how long I can get out of em and how well they'll hold up.

Thanks for all the feedback. It does seem that Infiniti has done some revising to their front ends or we would be hearing of problems.

My car has 12K miles and just got out of the dealer last night as a result of excessive tire noise and vibration. The front tires are severely cupped and feathered...the rear are not quite as bad. All four need to be replaced and it's looking like the tire feathering issue may be making a comeback in the G37.
