I test drove two used 996's since I've always lusted for a 911 before I settled on a newer more reliable car.. ie the g37.
The 911 feels like a go cart compared to the g but honestly its not that much quicker. The early 996's have less horsepower (298hp) while the later 996's had nearly 330 if I'm not mistaken. Where the 911 kills the g37 is weight. A 1999 996 barely weighs over 3000 pounds but the later 996's with more horsepower gained a couple hundred pounds. Not to mention a carrera 4 adds more weight as well.
Take the numbers for what they are worth but like a couple folks said .. the g37 isn't that much out of a 996's league performance wise.
Now the 996 turbo models or a GT3 version.. forget it!!!
