What is the reason to "stretch" your tires on the rims?

I have not measured it lately but I think I am lowered about 2-3". There is no finger gap at all.

So I'm not the only one who thought G37S had stock tires too small for the OEM rim. I actually checked the labeling on the tires to make sure dealership did not put tires too narrow for my G. They definitely look stretched, must be the brand. Does anyone know if stock sports wheels can properly support the next widest tire?
