Test drive the new FX35 with the 7 Speed Automatic

I had a chance to test drive the new FX35 with the 7 speed auto transmission.

While the shifts were smooth, i was expecting a quicker gear engagement using the paddle shifters. I was disappointed with the shift time.

I'm hoping that when this transmission is introduced in the new G37 coupe and sedan that it will be tweaked to shift much faster.

The evo X has a really quick and satisfying shift time. The 135i was also surprisingly very fast and fun. I hope Infiniti comes through!

nice find...yeah hopefully they will tune the G's to shift quicker...For som reason though my gut tells me that Infiniti/Nissan just won't get this downpat as well or as crisp as Bimmer.....

ONly the downshifting is matched revd. I don't think shifting up is what Infiniti has in mind as far as quickness. It's not an off the line car. Not sure why they want the downshift to be precise and not the up.

It's a higher end rev car so I don't think the 7AT will add quickness. The gear ratio is probably not that much different and this is where it matters. The only thing the 7AT will give us is a slight increase in MPG.

Oh well, can't have it all I guess!

For all the options and price, BMW can't touch it!!!

i dont wanna shift then have that lag there. theres new technology available that needs to be used. DCT, SMG, etc...

i'm not buying a G37 to save on fuel, so a 7 speed is pointless for me unless its really responsive and fun to drive!

Interesting that BMW owners are complaining about the delays in DCT (btw, SMG is dead, and has been dead for a few years now). Some are even saying it is a safety issue with respect to being able to move the car in a hurry.
