Installing Pioneer Navigation System

Installing Pioneer Navigation System
After having a feel of my G Coupe my girlfriend decided to go for Infiniti. She wanted a SUV so FX is her first choice. However she doesn't want the stock navigation system, instead, she wanted something that can play DVD and also connect her ipod to the audio system. So I looked around and found the perfect navigation system, the Pioneer AVIC-Z1. It is a double din navigation system with DVD playback and you can connect your ipod and even store the music in it so you don't need your ipod the next time around. My question is: will I still need a Double din conversion kit or not? I know if I want to install it in my G I would need it, but the FX seems already have a double din set up. Keep in mind, we are thinking of getting the FX WITHOUT navigation. Anyone have one installed already? Can you please post some pics? Thanks!!!

The FX dash is all tied together. HVAC and radio controls on the same PCB.
You can relocate the stock screen lower and install a double din unit in the screen location.
Inno just did a 7" Alpine screen install on his wifes.
Others have installed retractable single din units in the clock position
There are options but nothing off the shelf.

Thanks alot that really helps. She wanted the Avic-Z1 so it's probably going to be a double din set up. In the picture though the Alpine buttons looks way low, is there anyone who made a double din conversion for the FX? Thanks.

A guy recently put the Z1 into the oem screen location. It looked good, he took the pics down so I can't link you to them.
The location of the Alpine flip out will certainly not seem ideal. But, depending on how you drive and where your hands are. It can be perfect My hands are usually near the shifter since I drive manumatic mode most of the time, the touchscreen being there is very nice. Reaching up to the oem screen location is not a bad way to go either. Personal preference and how to execute the plan I guess. Touchscreen is certainly much better than the little stick.
No one makes a double din conversion kit or anything like that. Not to point you to another forum infinitifx.org is a dedicated FX site.

Another Question
How about the buttons on the steering wheels.. will those be functional? And I do not know if the FX has one but mine has the band button for the bose radio will that also be functional? Thanks alot guys it really helps on deciding if I should get the manf. navigation or not.

I think PAC makes some steering wheel options. I know the Alpine kit works from a friend, not sure about the Pioneer options. http://www.pac-audio.com/products/pr...el%20Interface
The 06 non tech screen is cool, they no longer come with the orange screen. Manufacturer nav is going to be integrated the best, but the control interface may not be the most up to date and user friendly.

I'm putting a carputer in my wife's FX and decided to put the TS in the clock position (I'd love to see some other pics of folks who have done this since I'm really trying to avoid fabricating a new dash piece). Anyway, I chose the lower location because, like you, I will be playing DVDs, music / visualizations, etc., which is illegal in most states for the front screen. Keeping the screen low keeps it out of view of the fuzz!
