I paid mine in pomona.. my ticket was for tint and front plate. I removed tint and replaced front plate. Cop didn't even bother stepping outside. Simply signed the ticket and sent me on my merry way.. it kind of bugged me because i could've easily left the tint on and nobody would have noticed lol.. till this day, i have no tint on my two front windows lol.. just easier that way.

but anyway, good luck OP... i also bought my G at 21. now at 26, am barely done paying the sob off lol..

If he still has to live around there I wouldn't suggest that tactic. Some people can be pretty determined to make your life harder if they feel you've screwed with them. And a police is in a perfect position to do that if he catches you slipping just a little bit.

Most things can be done the hard way or the easy way. The cop was wrong to be a butthole, but I'd still opt for the easy way rather than the hard way. Maybe that's just me being older and more mellow. When I was 21 I probably would have been righteously indignant and opted for the hard way too.

Are the police really picky about tint levels in California? I plan on driving over there this summer (I'm from Colorado), but have no desire to get five tickets while I'm there.

I'll have to look up what my tint level is at, but I'm fairly certain it's not legal. Probably 17% or something like that.

They can be bro.. I think different factors come into play with that. How you're driving, stock vs. modified car, and the area your in for example. Personally, I am yet to be pulled over for my front plate (hoping i didn't just jinx myself. the time i did get a ticket for my plate, i was originally pulled over for being alone in the carpool lane as i was late for work lol.. cop was really cool by writing me up for my plates and tint only). my car is slammed on JIC coils, Vossen 20's, and invidia cat-back. everything else is virtually stock and I don't driver around like speed racer. Therefore, since I don't draw excessive attention to myself, I don't get harassed much.

I also have a Nissan Titan that has never had a plate in the front, and have yet to be bothered... i'm sure you'll be fine.. good luck though. and welcome

If you drive with the speed limit and don't act like your the **** with a G, cuz we're really not, I see ferraris, bentleys, maseratis and porsches every day going to work and they're the ****, the cops won't pull you over for tints as long as they can see where you're looking and what you're doing through the front windows. Usually that's doable in the day time if your fronts are 25 and lighter.

My .2 cents

Your first mistake is living in the worst run/indebt state in america. They dont care about your rights and corruption is rampant in the police force. I would say to put in a complaint with his suppervisor but it wouldnt help. They wont even do anything when one of their own gets caught abusing someone that is handicaped. My recomendation is move and get others to move with you. Stop taking the abuse.

I said "excuse me?" he said you think I wouldn't notice your tints if your windows were down? I said No officer that wasn't my intention I have tints on the car, I'll admit it I just bought this car. He got angry and began to raise his voice. He told me he was going to write me up for a tint ticket now and "There is no way in hell I'll sign off your plate ticket, do you know how f***ing dangerous tints are?!, If I sign off your front plate I'm giving you a tint ticket." I told him I just got the car (which I did) and that I simply brought the car in for a front plate and not for tints, so I didn't understand why he's getting angry at me for tints.I said "Is there anything you can do so I can get the front plate signed off today and then I promise I'll take the tints off later on." He got even angrier at this point, he began to cuss at me. He started saying "You think you're hot **** because you have a nice car?" After a few minutes of him pretty much yelling at me I asked for my ticket back and left. I am young (21) but I just got this car and I keep getting hassled because of it. I don't even mind taking the tints off, I just don't appreciate getting yelled at for something this irrelevant. My question is, is he allowed to refuse to sign my plate ticket off if I have tints on it?

They are selective with tint violations, even though ANY tint on the front and side windows is illegal.

With an out of state license plate, and tint is legal in that state, you wont get cited.

Agreed.

Clarification: You probably won't get cited, but, you can be cited for it. This is not like coming from a one plate state (license plate) using the "right to pass through" clause.

your automotive posts are fairly informative though...

The law in So Cal treats people with monies different than those without. Us in the G aren't in that exclusive tint club lol

Dang that is just harsh. Im 20 and I had a horrible encounter with this detective about my G when I first got it. I literally only had it about a week and the guy pulled me over for not having a license plate yet also about tint. He was a complete douch. Stopped me asked me where I got the car how I got it and was asking where I work and all of this got me out the car asked to search it and stuff. Guessing I thought I was slaying rocks. But I took it to the city and never again have been harrassed about front license plates and tint.

It's all about the attitude!!
I don't get hassled about tint!!
I was pulled over once, yeah I was going fast!! The cop asked me "Do you know why I pulled you over" My response was, "yes, you thought I was an 18 year old driving my Dads 50K car" He laughed and handed my license back!! Told me to slow down.

The recent license plate issue, I was doing 90 down US 101 outside SLO, got pulled over with a Scion that was passing me! Yeah the guy had *****!!
The CHP wrote the Scion first , then came back to me and asked if I was racing him, I laughed out loud, and said seriously?? He wrote me for no front plate ony. He even let it go as a "fix it" ticked, so there was no fine!!

Know your rights

You do not have to answer any of their questions. You have to give them your license, registration and insurance... thats it. Never let a cop search your car ever. Its your 4th amendment right and you should never give it up.

Yeah I know that exactly what I told him too. Carry a small book with all the amendments in my car ever since I was in ApGov in high school. Over all guy was a real tool, I'm surprised I haven't seen him in town after that incident. Btw I'm out from Barstow pretty small place tons a sketchy people but not all are the same.
