This is probably goodbye...G Totaled

Several weeks ago someone smashed into my parked G. No one was hurt and they left their insurance information. Just wanted to say my thanks and goodbyes to this forum as I will be moving on to something else. No idea what car but it won't be a G. If somehow I can convince the insurance company to let me take some parts off of it, I will post in the classifieds.

When my BMW got hit the same way I was able to swap stuff but I think I had to put back what I took. I had replaced some chrome trim with black pieces and just took the black pieces off and put the chrome back on. Same went for my nav display. Did it all at the scrap yard though. Thankfully my 19s were off at the time.

Didn't know you were in STL! Car looks great.

Yeah, I think you can take your belongings out of the car - Which includes all after market parts

The car is technically still yours, so you're free to do whatever you want with the parts that you had installed.

Sucks that happened to you though, best of luck OP!

Sucks to hear the bad news, hopefully the insurance company cuts you a fat check. I'll keep an eye out in the classifieds for your parts.

When my past car was wrecked I was able to go the crash yard and pull off my stuff, they valued the per-accident condition based on the condition i left it in AFTER i was finished. I was also able to submit receipts for the things I didn't remove such as window tints and the rear sway bar...

good luck!

I spoke with the insurance company and their evaluation was for everything that was currently on the car. I dont have any of the oem parts which means I couldnt swap anything. Unfortunately I had to give up the M shift ****, the GTR start button, illuminated door sills, front lip, G37 coupe wheels and midnight grill. I could have put up a fight but overall they cut me a check for more than I thought, so Im OK with it.

Only things I managed to save were OEM wheel locks and iPod connector.

Oh, well yea if you don't have the original parts your kinda screwed then.

You can still probably submit receipts for the mods and they should add some compensation to the offer value.

For those that are interested, I am slowly narrowing down what I will be getting next. I have eliminated the Q50. Right now its looking like a used Audi S3 is leading the pack. I will say that the WRX is also a possibility.

I have always wanted a WRX but i think it'd be hard going to the crappy interior coming from the G.

Audi S3 would be a nice replacement, although the A3 / S3 has a very cramped interior.

If i were replacing my G i'd probably look at A4 / S4 or A5 / S5

The WRX comes in leather and while the dash is still outdated, with the leather its actually a decent interior. The Q50 was just boring and the steering wheel, like on the G's was such a disappointment. I am also not a fan of the touchscreen center panel.

The S3 is rather small which is one of my huge negatives about it. I dont drive with a lot of people that much so I figure with just me and one other person it should be alright. The power on it is insane. I looked at a 16 A4 and while it was nice, the power was lacking so much. The S tronic transmission isnt standard until the 2017 and that gets pricey. The used S4's in my area all had way too many miles on them and I wasnt going to take a risk on it. The S5 is nice but I want 4 doors.

If you like the S3, how about the Golf R?

Sorry to hear your car was totaled.
