Burning smell when merging onto freeway?

Happens every time I first enter the freeway. Windows close, vents set to re-circulation and sunroof tilted open.

I get a hint of something burning. Probably burning oil or something.

Only happens when the sunroof is open. (back pressure?) causing the burning smell to enter the cabin?

With the sunroof closed I don't get any smell.

Only happens when I first get into the freeway. It goes away after a minute or two.

Same here, happens everytime I leave work. Going from 40 mph in the merge lane to 65 mph in the middle or left lane. It has a very bad burning smell. Can't be oil cause I changed mines 2 days ago.

But why does the smell only happen when I'm entering the freeway?

It doesn't smell when I'm cruising the street with the window down.

This happend every since I owned the car. And I bought it brand new a few months ago. Only has 7k miles on it.

Idk then. Check under the car maybe u drove over a plastic bag and its stuck to the exhaust. I did that once I only smelt it in the beginning when I'd drive then fade. Eventually burning off almost completely till I no longer smelt it. Still had some remnants lol. I'm jus giving ideas I don't really kno why

I am following this thread. I get the same burning smell when I accelerate hard. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does happen, I smell the burn.

I have yet to find out where it is coming from.

What kind of gas are you using?

Some gases, Shell, BP, Exxon, etc.. let off their own distinctive smell after being expelled after a hard acceleration like entering on the freeway.

It could just be the fumes from the burnt gas.

Run your gas down and the next time you put some gas in, use a different brand and see if it lets off a different smell. Just one possibility...

i get it, too, on hard acceleration. i just assumed its a G37 quirk - like the warm air that comes out of the footwell vents unless its set to the lowest temp.

A redline a day, keeps the smell away.
