Painted my Grille

Finally got around to painting my grille last night. Turned out really well even with the colder temps I was painting in. Finish is near perfect. After I hit it with some light polish and wax it it will be perfect. Anyways, here's some pics.

Looks good. You should've painted the emblem as well.

Yeah, I'll probably go back and do it later. I didn't have time today.

Looks good. Before you decide on the emblem, paint the lower three grills KH3 and get some chrome amber turn signals. Then take a look at the front end again and you might decide you like the silver emblem.

Yeah I'm gonna paint the lower grilles when I get back from vacation next week. I kinda like the emblem silver. It matches my wheels which have silver center caps. If I do paint it I will tape off the front of the logo just so the inside plastic and surrounding chrome will be black.

Looks good! What was your technique? A 3 step process, sand, prime, and paint? No clearcoat im assuming.

I guess it would be a 4 step process. I did clearcoat it. Here's the steps I took.
Supplies: Duplicolor Adhesion Promoter, Rustoleum Gloss Black Paint for Plastic, and Rustoleum High Performance Wheel Clearcoat. All of these I just picked up from Autozone. The Adhesion promoter is like a primer for plastic and I chose the high perf wheel clear cause I figured it would handle rock chips and stuff better since it was designed for wheels.

Process:
-scuff with scotch brite pad (lightly! just enough to create a rough surface for the adhesion promoter to grab)
-wipe with denatured alcohol and dry
-tape off any areas you dont want painted
-apply 3 coats adhesion promoter 2-3min dry time between each coat
-after 3rd coat dry 8-10min
-apply 4 coats of color 5-10min dry time between each coat
-dry 1 hour
-apply 5 coats of clear 4-6min dry time between each coat
-dry over night or up to 24 hours. Took almost 18 hours for it to feel completly dry.

Looks great, I would leave the emblem chrome, unless you have PC wheels like Sam.

Yup, my wheels are PC'd. Thats why I did the grille black in the first place. I don't mind the chrome for now. I might get it color matched later on.
