For the amount of money they want for this car and all the probs, besides the fact that its a 4.2L V8 and only puts down like 354hp.......cmon.
Dont get me wrong I LOVE IT. Its a sick car, but id pass on it.

This was the exact decision I was faced with earlier last month. Except I was looking at the A5. If I had the money for the S5 I wouldve gone your route. However trying to decide between an A5 or G37 its a no brainer! I had to go with the G37! Nice upgrade tho!!

The cars are not really the same at all besides having 2 doors. Overall the G is a more raw/rough driving experience. The suspension in the G was more jarring, but they handle pretty similarly even though the S5 is a couple hundred pounds heavier. The steering feel is and the shifter is better on the S5, but the tall shifter is kind of annoying. The G's shifter height was perfect. The AWD is nice, but I don't really have a use for it here in sunny CA. It is reassuring however.
The 14 speaker Bang & Olufsen is a world better than the Bose in the G. The fit and finish is also amazing. The smallest most minute details are thought of in the S5 and the keyless entry and climate control work seamlessly. While in the G, they were sort of clunky and the climate control was always blowing lots of air out on auto-mode. It also had a funny smell. The navigation in the G is better. It announces street names and its much easier to enter a destination. The Bluetooth in the S5 is better - it loads all you contacts, call history automatically. I had issues in the G with my Palm Pre. It was pretty much unusable, worked fine with my Blackberry bold though. I guess it just wasn't compatible. One thing I'm glad about is no creaking! The a-pillar creak was embarrassing and annoying.
The S5's motor is smooth. It doesn't get shaky in high RPMs. It doesn't have the same berserk note the VQ has though. The car is quicker than the G, although Audi's priority was to make this car a great package, and not focus on the engine/speed, like the G.
A pretty penny is paid for this car. But if you're knit-picky like me about details and want luxury, this is the car to have. It's competitors are the E-Class coupe, Jag XK and BMW 6, but priced lower than the latter 2.
I don't know if I'll keep this car out of warranty, but so far it's been problem free @ 2500 miles. We'll see!
RealOne - I wouldn't have gotten an A5 either. The motor is just too anemic.

i'd take this over a G any day of the week. i had an S4 before this and kept it outta warranty and never had an issue at all. fit and finish is way better (no rattles and that junk)...the G is a great car, but next car for me will be either a m3 or RS5 (assuming they will have that on the market at that time).
