STAY AWAY from Herb Chambers

First wasnt sure where to post this so if this the wrong spot sorry.

I was thinking of trading my coupe for the New Genesis Coupe just to lower my payments. Went an kicked the tires on the deal and LOST my "only one made CF hood" See the email I sent to Herb himself and got no reply. But really not suprised..

I had made an appointment to come out to your Hyundai store in Westboro and look at a possible lease on a Genesis Coupe and would be trading in my G37X Coupe( leased from the Westboro Infiniti store next door) An this is would be my Families 5th Herb Chambers car , However we will not be getting a Herb car again due to the way I was treated at the Hyundai store..

On to my appointment I arrived a bit early 840AM for a 9AM with Ryan. I checked in at the desk with Kristen( Very pleasant) She called Ryan and he came right over and introduced himself.
When then sat down he took some info, I handed him my car key and he was off to get the Genesis Coupe for me to drive and to have the used car manager look at my trade. I saw them take my car away to Infiniti (I would guess- an was later told it went there) waited a few more minutes and Ryan pulled up with the car for me to drive.

We went on the test drive ( Car was very very nice) we came back and Ryan took the Genesis back to the lot and to get the info on my trade. I waited by his desk.
When he returned he had Mark with him and Mark told me my trade was worth $22,000?? This is a G37X Coupe 2011 with under 19k miles, BLK on BLK with Sport Paddle shifters and Premium and back up, Was leased at 42k and the Residual in May of 2014 is $29,000?? I was also at a Colonial Dodge dealer this past Wednesday and was told the car was worth $28,000 in trade? Needless to say those numbers at Dodge did not work and the numbers at Hyundai also did not work.

I parted ways with Mark and Ryan( Very pleasant also) I was very nicely brought out to my car ,my hand was shook and I got it and went to leave. I drove down the driveway past Infiniti as I wanted to stop in and say hi to John Catlin( Gentleman that sold myself and my wife our cars) and to see if there where and when there where some "New" programs to let us know as both our leases are up in the next year.
John was in a meeting so I went out to get on RT 9 to go to the Mass Pike to go home. I got to the intersection at Stop N Shop(1/4 mile away) where the light was red and the was some traffic at the light, When the light changer I proceeded to go through the light, and as I went threw the intersection my hood( Carbon Fiber one of a kind hood) Flew up smashed into my windshield , ripped off the hinges crashed into the roof and flew behind me.. I was in the left lane and thank god there was no one behind me as there would have been a very bad accident, An as I swerved to the left almost hitting the median. I slowly pulled off RT 9 into a parking lot just past the light. I composed myself as I was pretty shook up and then went right back to the dealer, Walked in and asked for Ryan and Mark. Ryan was busy and I saw Mark looking for me, I said "We have a small problem, we walked outside and I said " Um the used car manager or who ever looked at the car never closed the hood and it flew off and is on RT 9 at Stop N Shop".

So Mark states ge will be right back, leaves , Ryan comes out, We talk and look at the area where the hood was and also notice that the hood catches are unlatched( Not locked , Which means the hood was opened because these only way to unlock these is by pulling the handle in the car).. After some time, a long time two other guys come over , I am still outside with the car, Neither of them introduce themselves, They look at the car and then say" We never open the hood, We did not touch it"? I said "really so how are the catches unlocked" and your trying to tell me I drove here on 128 and the mass pike at 80 MPH and the hood was fine and I leave here after you appraise the car and do 30 MPH at rips off the car? They look at me say someone is going to get the hood and they leave. I then go inside , About 5 minutes later the same two guys come back with two others and Mark and Ryan go back outside, One of the new guys a tech from Infiniti. They hover and look around the car for a good 5-7 minutes and then Mark Ryan and the unnamed man return inside and come and tell me. This is all my fault, they never opened the hood I'm resoniable. So by some magic the hood has been like that for weeks( I had a service done 3 weeks ago) I daily drive the car I'm on and off the highway everyday for work and the hood has never come up or off till today? So he was bascially telling me I had been driving around with a unlatched hood for three weeks??? Been on and off the highway at highways speeds and the hood never move ??? That's is not possible.

I argued this point and stating the above .. This is insane to say, and to tell me this is my fault and I have been driving around like that is pretty my telling me to "Take a walk man" That's in nice terms as what I really think I was being told. I said the hood latches where unlatched Mark and Rayn also saw they where unlatched, so someone had to open the hood at the appraisal. He just keep saying " Nope We never touched it , We never opened it".

Went back and forth for while , I said ." looked we are going to do this all day , But there has to be some resolve here?" The unnamed man( I was told later he was the Manager of all three dealers and had no boss, He was the boss there") He says to me "We never touched it call you INS company'??? Really for what I said, He says so they can pay to fix it,, WHAT I said why? Then the story changed a little and said have you INS contact ours??? Why so you can deny the events again to them and I still am out $1000 and an Item that is not made.
I became upset, Yes upset finally and told him he needed to walk away as I was going to get very loud,I also went for a short walk around the show room as I did not want to AIR this for all the other customers to hear as I understand you are still trying to do business there and did not want to make a scene for everyone. Needless to say I composed myself went back talked to Ryan and Mark told them how I felt and used some "bad" words but not in a angry way towards them but in how I was being treated and blamed for something that someone wont own up too.

I went outside talked to my wife and we both we VERY unhappy with how things went, We had, had a long history with "you" Your Company, as like I said this would have been out 5th car with you, I worked at BMW some years ago and felt we had a dealer that we could really trust( something you really don't say when talking about Car dealers) But I guess we can't trust you or your dealers. When both out leases are up( Wife's is up Dec this year) Mine is up May next year. we will be looking for someone else to do business. I also relayed this info to the manager I spoke to along with I will be telling everyone I know, (Am a very active G37, 370Z and G35 forums), Which also would include the BBB and the Att general of mass about what happened and he told me " You have to do what you have to do".. Owell again it is what it is.. The one last thing I did was after speaking to my wife and thinking about my experience in the auto industry.. Cameras, Surveillance cameras. I Ryan asked if I could see the tape or the loop of the time my car was being appraised? He went in the back office and when he came out the "Manager was right on his heels" Ryan comes to me and the manager goes some where else. Ryan tells me I have to come back Monday?? A list of excuses, why I have to come back, But between you me and the lamp post, Either the will be no evidence of the car inside or that part will be missing.

All in all I feel I was mistreated, lied to and then shoved out the door for one because someone made a human mistake on my car and did not own up to it and two I wasn't buying a car.

I also had to use my own tools to secure the hood pistons and latches (as they where pointing stait up) for my 1 hour ride home in the rain and then to alone reinstall the stock hood in the rain.

Sorry to hear man, this is why I am always around whenever dealerships or other people (mechanics, salespersons, etc) look or touch my car. They don't know ANYTHING about cars and have yet to meet one person who knows what he/she is talking about. Hope the damage wasn't too bad as it sounded

Herb Chambers...SUCKS!

Sorry to hear this...
I agree that Herb Chambers isn't very honest, due to a "missing" cd during service for my 1995 Honda Civic EX in 1995! This was at their Commonwealth Ave. dealership.
My story...I went in for my "free" initial oil change and at the time of pick up found out that the cd in the dash was missing and there was McDonald's fries found on floor & between the armrest.
Of course they denied everything!

I actually gave Herb Chambers another chance when I was in the market for the 2003 FX. At the time I was driving my 2001 Lexus IS300 and went in looking for an FX. I asked the person behind the desk if they had a FX on the floor for me to look at and he snickered and pointed to one that was almost hidden in the back corner of the showroom...unseeable from the front area.
After spending a few minutes checking it out I asked the same person if there was any deals/offers with the FX at the moment...he laughed out loud and sneeringly asked me if I was joking, because he couldn't even keep them in the store and they were selling like hotcakes.
I asked the how much would the FX35 with Sport/Tech package go for?
He will over give me the answer if I was ready to sign.
I asked him for his business card so we can discuss the sale & trade in later. While still laughing (at me)...he gives me his card. He turns out to be the General Manager of the dealership...how unprofessional was he!

I waited another week to get back to him, but he wasn't available and I was advised to just come in and speak to a salesperson.
I spent an hour with "Bob" going over the cost, which also included a very short test drive up & down Commonwealth Ave...roughly about 10mins. The test vehicle was still plastic wrapped which just came off of the trailer and the tires where way over inflated...the test drive was horrible.
At the end of our discussion, I wasn't too happy with the service and told Bob I would have to think about it. This made Bob angry and he said "Don't you think you should be signing papers now since I spent all this time with you?"
I thanked him for his time and left the dealership with a bad feeling in my stomach...telling myself why I even bothered?
Bob ended up calling me and leaving several messages the next 3 days.

Long story short...I ended going to Kelly Infiniti instead.
I couldn't be happier...I've been a loyal customer there ever since...2 FX's and now the G37xS!

Try sending an email to the GM directly. You should be able to find the email address from the dealer website. If anything go directly to Herb Chamber corporate and file a complaint. I've had bad experience with herb chambers dealer in the past. Luckily, I was able to resolve each time via method mentioned above. Good luck.

I don't get how they can value a car without looking it over. It seems like looking under the hood would play a key part in this.

They sound like scum. I am from NH and will avoid them!

From: Framingham Ma,
Hey so talked the corporate office for Herb Chambers yesterday and they told me they in fact!!! Did “Try” to open the hood. Someone finally admitted they pulled the handle in the car but for all of us with CF hoods we know the stock spring is not there and because the hood did not pop up they thought?? Or assumed it was broken?? Really on a 2011 I know the hood is different but either way someone should have said “We tried to open you hood but it didn’t open”. At least then I would have rechecked it before I left and told them there is NO special way to open it” No one has asked before “
So I have to drive out there on Saturday and meet the “new” GM and talked to him about this..
BTW they of course also keep pointing that the middle latch was not on the hood.. Of course they will look for a loop hole to point to me.. So the stock latches on the sides are not good enough, Yea only if you pull the handle in the car. LOL

While I hope this works out in favor of the OP, it should be a lesson to all to never leave their car alone for appraisal. Best to tag along to address any questions and make sure no damage is done.

If Herb Chambers does not resolve this matter to your satisfaction, I would file a written complaint with Infiniti USA, since an Infiniti dealer is responsible for the damage. I suggest you call the main number first to determine the correct department to send the letter to. When calling, I would ask to speak with someone in the department that handles dealer complaints. Below is the contact information:

Infiniti Corporate Office Headquarters
Nissan North America, Inc.
1 Nissan Way
Franklin, TN 37067 USA
Corporate Phone Number: 1-615-725-1000

I would make it very clear to them that is your next course of action if they do not remedy the situation.
