My first G37

My first G37
I have been hanging here for a while trying to educate myself about getting a used G. Reading the various discussions here have been quite educational. I've been a fan of the G coupe since the G35 came out, considering it one of the best-looking cars out there. When I decided earlier this year to hang up the helmet and retire from motorcycles (I was on my third Yamaha FJR1300 - great bikes), I started thinking of a nice used sporty car to go along with my daily driver (an '18 F-150). I kind of wanted the automotive equivalent of the FJR1300 sport-touring machine. that would mean fairly comfy, nice power, handles well and looks good. The list from the start has been short since not very many of those types of cars comfortably fit my 6'2" 250lb frame. I had it pretty well narrowed down to the G coupe, the Genesis coupe and the 328i. The budget I had set for myself meant something from the 2008-2011 time frame. The BMW got tossed off the list after talking at length to a trusted friend who has been in the car business for many years and then to a long-time acquaintance who owns and operates the largest European auto repair shop in this area.
The wife and I headed west about 100 miles yesterday to look at a silver '08 G in one of the upscale areas north of Dallas. Drove it - solid and tight. Body and paint was quite nice as was the interior. Crawled around underneath it with a flashlight. No drips or signs of underside damage. No signs of ruptured differential seals. In the last 3 months, owner had had done new tires, brakes all around, battery, oil+filter and a new sunroof motor. 92K on the odo. Clean Carfax. Overall, one of the nicer '08s up for sale in these parts. After some negotiation, I ended up driving it home.
So far, I really have enjoyed it. With the sport suspension, the ride can be a bit stiff, but that's to be expected and it really does shine in the corners. Now to just get the whole phone Bluetooth music thing sorted out......

Nice coupe, I think you made the right choice out of the three you had on your list. Genesis aren't bad for the price but a bit too much plastic and cut corners here & there.
Enjoy your G, and welcome to the site!

First bit of maintenance happened this afternoon. The previous owner didn't know how long it had been since the differential oil had been drained and filled, so I went ahead and did that. It looked like it had been done at least once during the life of the car. The old gear oil was not the worst I've ever seen, but had some miles on it. Not much gunk on the magnetic drain plug either. Now it has new Valvoline Syn-power LS 75W-90 and I know it's been done. The fill bolt wasn't too bad to get off, but the drain bolt refused to budge even with the 1/2" air ratchet. Fortunately, it came loose after a tap of the trigger on the 1/2" impact wrench.

"I was a ATGATT rider (All The Gear All The Time), so I found myself not wanting to suit up for any ride less than 20 min."
This is mostly why I quit riding. Really enjoyed my Bandit 1200 while I was still riding.

I know that is the best way to be but it took away from the experience for me. I would wear my Jacket if it wasn't too hot. I had a Summer and a Fall/Winter Jacket too. I did wear my fingerless gloves unless it was cold. Then the gauntlets would come out. Always rode with a real show or boot too. I really miss riding, but in my area the distracted drivers made it TERRIBLE to ride in town. I stopped having time to take it away from the metro area to enjoy the ride so I sold it. The itch has been coming back hard lately though

Coincidentally, the fellow who is buying my FJR lives between Charlotte and Asheville.

I finally got an opportunity today to take the G on some of the roads south of town (those that have some decent sweeper turns) on which I used to do short hops the FJR. Fun .
Now I won't be quite so sad when the motorcycle departs for NC in 8 days.
