Browsing G37x's

Hi all.

I signed up for this forum a long time ago when shopping cars. Never pulled the trigger on an Infiniti yet.

I bought a Fiat 500 Abarth about 2 years ago. I drive alot...already have 100,000kms on it and it's been "troublesome" since day one. Now that the warranty is done I'm worried about it's reliability to get me to work.

I've always preferred large, torquey sedans. Not a fan of the bouncy, small wheelbase car experience.

Would love to hear some honest, up front advice about the reliability and longevity of the G37x.
Any normal issues they have?
Any serious maintenance requirements? (timing belt, frequent tranny/axle fluids changes etc etc)

Much thanks!

So I'm gonna go look at some used G37X sedans. All have around 41k kms/25k miles. 2011-2013.

Anything specific to these cars I should look at besides the usual? Certain problem areas?

Not really, only things I can think of would be some people complain about brake judder around that mileage and a resurfacing can quickly fix that or a rough idle and that is a 30 min DIY of cleaning the throttle bodies, but no serious mechanical problems or maintain is really prevalent at that mileage. You should probably change all the fluids if you are getting a 2011 as most of them will be at the end of their lifecycle, this will help with the longevity of your new Infiniti.

Driveline service at 60k is really the biggest maintenance as far as I know.

Slowbird one thing to consider. I'm new to Infiniti ownership and come from MINI, VW and Audi background, all have pretty avid followers and active forums. None of these forums compare to the help, advise and all around friendliness of this forum. Truly good folks here that will be there if you need answers or assitance. Thats a huge plus in my book. I hope you find your car and enjoy it! Good luck and post some pics when you find her.

Well so far so bad. Can't find any G's in good shape so far.

One had the TPMS light on, dealer said they'd fix it.
But it had another exclamation symbol on the dash. An amber one. CEL? Does that come on with the TPMS?
It Wasn't the E-brake light.

The CEL will show up as "Service Engine Soon" the exclamation symbol comes on when you activate the warning box in the center portion of the gauge cluster. This could be anything from being almost out of gas to your oil/filter needing to be changed, It's not a major warning symbol, just an attention getter.
BTW, welcome to the site, hopefully if that's the G you really like they'll get those issues quickly resolved.

I appreciate the quick response. Thanks!

I hope I find the perfect one soon.

Ok. Quick question.

Is the warranty for the G37's
4 year/100,000kms comprehensive.
6 year/110,000kms Powertrain?
(In Canada)

I have been to numerous dealerships and looked at a dozen G37's but only just now did a salesperson tell me that.
That's why I'm a bit skeptical.

what were the troubles with your fiat 500? I'm trying to convince someone to NOT buy it right now actually

LOL. You got some time?

-Ignition coils. I had 2 fail on me at different times. Both causing awful misfiring. (Fairly common with the Turbo models)
-Manual shifter linkage snapped at 100,000kms. (A few on the forums had same issue)
-The strut mounts are an awful design and fail regularly causing knocking from the front.
-Rear shock bushing ripped and cracked
-Coolant reservoir leaking (Very common)
-Rust inside moonroof
-Side Skirts peel/fall off. (Very common)
-Window Regulator loose in door. (very common)
-Various trim, badges and weatherstripping issues
-Starter connections corroded after 2 years causing an intermittent no start
-Paint is thin and chips/flakes easily
-The hatch wouldn't open if it was raining or it got wet.
-BlueTooth connections were flaky

Mine was the Abarth and it (and the other Turbo model) suffer from boost leaks and awful dips in the powerband.

The exhaust sure did sound nice though.

Oh yeah...it also wants to spin like a top if it's on anything loose (i.e. gravel, deep rain, snow etc) and the short wheelbase and solid rear end make it ride like crap and not exactly handle the best on the track.

heh, interesting. our problems are far and few in between, especially if you're looking for the newer years.

Thanks! That is good to here.

I just picked up a 2012 G37x Sedan so I'm hoping it fairs better than the Abarth did.
