First Post: New guy here
Hey Guys/Gals,
I'm Greg, a new guy here and to the VQ platform in general. I'm currently in the process of returning my 2011 VW GTI back to stock for trade in on a 2011 or 2012 G37x. (There's 4-5 I'm looking at currently)
Here's a picture of the current but soon to be old ride.
Previous rides include: 2010 Audi A5,2002 VW Passat and 2001.5 VW Jetta. Long story short, bought a house with the lady and need a more practical daily driver with reliability. I figure why not up the power, handling and looks IMO all in one. I've always had a special place in my heart for Nissan/Infiniti.
Coming from being apart of the Euro scene my whole life I have a few questions in regards to the platform. I've been searching for a week strait and looking at countless forums and posts but cant seem to find the answers. Please bare with me if it's a current topic or one thats posted 237927 times. I know how this annoys most people as it did to myself over in the vw/audi forums.
In regards to lowering: this will be my daily and I've been reading swift springs/eibachs are the way to go for a slight drop. Coming from air ride and not wanting to go back down that path I want something comfortable but dont want to damage the stock shocks which I know happens with springs. I am yet to find a full coilover set for the AWD platform. (I can see that parts are hard to find for awd lol)
With the springs, is a camber kit needed for front and rear? I never ran into this issue with the VW/Audi because their suspension allowed for up to 3 degrees camber in the rear and the fronts were never an issue regardless. Unless you went with some crazy wide width or offset.
Apologies in advance for the long post.

Going to move it to the new folder for a proper intro.
Looks like you've got good taste in cars and choosing the Infiniti would be another good choice IMO.
Let us know what you find.

I would go with Swift over Eibach fora couple of reasons. When I had my xS I ordered a set of Eibachs, come to find out after I took delivery that Eibach does not make a set of springs specific to the sedan X. They make them for rwd coupes, verts, and sedans and they make them for the awd verts and coupes. I called Eibach after I took delivery and they said they don't make them specifically for the awd sedan and they don't know how well the awd coupe springs would fit since they may be a different spring rate. At any rate the drop on a awd sedan on Swifts looks damn near perfect, imo, and they specifically make springs for the awd sedans. If you go with springs you shouldn't need a camber kit, but don't take my word for it. Take a look around in the suspension section and see if there is a thread that covers awd springs, I'm sure there is at least one.
Here is Dragion's xS on Swifts, you'll see what I mean...

Greg, Welcome! I also came from the German side and still have a 13 GTI in the household and love it. That being said I recently purchased a new Q60xS (G37) and feel like I've moved up a notch in most driving regards (not mpg). Good luck finding your new ride, I think you'll enjoy it. You will also find the G community on this forum to be incredibly helpful. BTW I didn't catch whether your looking for a sedan or coupe.

Need 4 Speed- I'm sure i'll be in touch since I can never leave any car alone. My last GTI was suppose to be a DD and that turned into air ride, tuning, multiple wheel sets and other mods, ha.
'11G37S- Thank you for the info. That's what i've been reading but some say it is necessary and others say it's not for the camber kit. So i'll keep digging. I do love the swifts in terms of theyre ride height. I did happen to find K-Swift coils for the awd platform but havnt been able to find any comments or reviews on them. We'll see!
Yan141- Thanks!
OhGWhiz- I love the GTI and the mk6 platform is great but for a daily driver/everyday car its to small for my everyday use. Especially 2-doors, which is why i'm going with the sedan. Awd where I am located is a nice add on too.
