Hi. My name is Jim and I'm a car guy.
Howdy,
I'm new to these parts and wanted to say hi and say a few words about myself.
Like the title says, I'm a car guy and it's probably safe to assume that describes most other guys here (and galls). By trade I'm a broadcast editor, but I spend my free time (ie, time when there isn't something going on with my wife or the kids or the in-laws cars, etc) playing in the garage, working with metal, restoring my 73 Karmann Ghia or trying to keep my 2000 Camaro alive.
That brings me to why I'm here.
My DD, a modestly modified 2000 Camaro, has rolled past the 200,000 mile mark. It actually still drives pretty well, but it's starting to show its age. This is from the 2014 Gathering of the F-Bodies show this May.
When I bought the Camaro, I really wanted a Corvette, but with 2 kids, I needed the back seat.
While at a local Carmax looking for a Highlander to haul the kids and nieces around, I happened upon a 2011 G37 Sport (Again like the 'vette, I really like the 370Z, but I need a back seat). I sat in it, started it, but haven't driven one yet. I kinda fell in love with the looks of this car and I've done a little research on them.
So again, that's why I'm here. I'm hoping you, the G37 community, can tell me what you think of these cars; what to look for, what to look out for, common issues, loves, joys, hates, regrets. You know, stuff like that there.
I started an F-Body tech forum in 2008 and I'm sure a lot of my members and staff will feel I'm jumping ship. I love my Camaro, but I'm getting that itch for a change. There's no doubt in my mind from a technical design stand point, the G37 is a far superior automobile.
...but what do you think?
ps... This is the one I'll be test driving this week.

Hi Jim,
Nice intro!
I think you found a good place to talk shop & do some fact finding, there's a lot of good info and many cars from mild to wild.
Looks like you found a nice coupe, the S pkg has a lot of features that a car guy would want such as the big brakes, bigger wheels, summer tires, Limited Slip diff, etc.
It takes a big budget to squeeze much more power from these cars as they come pretty hot out of the box. A few bolt-ons like high flow cats, cat back exhaust, cold air intake will gain a few hp along w/ a tune. I think you'll be pretty happy w/ it if you know going in that unless you go SC or TT you"ll just be getting minimal gains. There's also plenty of cosmetic mods around to make that coupe your own.
Glad you found us & hopefully you"ll have that or a similar G in your garage soon.

Thanks Brad.
I don't plan on doing too much modding on it (yeah, I say that now, but those who know, know). I was looking at the Catback setup from Magnaflow. I have that on the Camaro and I like it.
From what I've seen in reviews with regards to power and suspension, there's very little that has to be done. Car and Driver called it a "rocket," which made me giggle like a school girl a little.

Yes,
2010
and yes the Bose is not bad. How ever some add a sub to equal it out more.

I certainly want a 2010+ Sport model for the body design; that's a given.
Are there any advantage (ie feature changes) going with a G37S newer than 2010?

Whelp, I made it out today, but they were busy and I had an appointment I needed to keep. I'll probably run out there again tomorrow.
I did snap a few pics of it and gave it a look-see. Appeared pretty well taken care of.
I know it wont make much more power, but I'll have a little cash left over after the purchase.
What's the thoughts on a K&N Intake HERE...
...and this Magnaflow catback system HERE? I have a K&N FIPK2 intake and Magnaflow system on the Camaro and I like it.

I'd look into the Takeda, it's a true cold air system and about $100 less than the Stillen Gen3 and no cutting req'd.

The ARK cat backs are a pretty awesome look & sound for the coupes IMO.
