New Owner from Subaru - Break-In Period?
Hello Everyone -
Yes, I am a new 2013 G37x Sedan owner and in heaven. I came from a WRX/Legacy 3.6R and glad I made the swap. The dealer near me isn't the best (big surprise) but wondering about the typical break-in period. Can you help me out? Combed through the owners manual and didn't see anything unless I am blind but after reading through everything, I could have overlooked it.
Any other things I should know about these awesome machines?

Oh and I forgot to say that I have it at 180 miles right now. I have put my foot in the gas around five times or so (two times leaving the dealer and then the others were traffic related). Have I hurt anything? I came from a WRX/STi where I was gentle but also drove it like I would. I am asking you all because I want my car to last and not damage anything to enjoy the machine that it is.

Welcome to the forum.
You should be fine. If it were me, I probably wouldn't floor it or redline it at least until I got my first oil change. You can do your first oil change early tho, say ~1000 miles and switch to synthetic or use what I use, Nissan Ester.

Congratulations on the new car.
I had a 5th generation Legacy GT before I got my G37. I personally never follow a specific break in period and just drive normal for the first 500 miles, change my oil and never look back

Welcome! We bought our 2013 in July. A few days later we embarked on a 3,000+ mile road trip. Drove it hard some, used cruise for extended periods, all the things that were no-no's years ago with break in periods. I think engines have come a long way. Did have the first oil change done right at 1200 miles, other than that, nothing.
I am surprised to see the number of NEW 2013's on lots still.
My lonely dealer has 2, had about 20 when we bought, supposedly we got the last bright red one in our 7-8 state "gulf state region". Grubbs is down to 2. Naperville (Chicagoland) has 2. Scottsdale has like 10! Pepe on Long Island, who claims to be the largest volume Infiniti dealer in the world has 3 as well.

I am pretty good with cars and "how things work" and yes, engines have come a long way. I guess I wanted to get a few peoples' opinions because I would rather be safe than sorry. Plus, I am not that familiar with my G37x as I was with my Subies, ya' know? Thanks for the input! My dealer had three and this one was the showroom model. Plus, they were getting another four in this week. People out here in CO aren't a fan of the new Q50/Hybrid model due to the high altitude as we have seen better performance from the higher end Q series or the 37x (no AWD = pointless car payment lol)

In regards to the break-in, I will keep it under 4k and go from there. No more horsin' around. I did put it in Sport mode today but didn't do anything with it because we were all crusin at 50 for a long time and at least it changed gears a few more times. Plus, in traffic, it seems to be shifting a lot and once or twice it seemed to get "confused" and didn't do a clean shift. The tranny didn't clunk or anything but is that just because of the seven gears inside and I hit the gas right when it was going to shift? Sorry to seem paranoid. Again, I just don't want to hurt my engine or have caused any damage by doing what I did. I did take a corner and traction came on (hehe) but that was again, when I left the dealer.

One thing I would avoid is using cruise control the first 500 miles, just don't want the G to remain at a constant rpm for a long road trip. I also change my first oil & filter at 1k miles then resume the normal interval. I've had good UOA (Used oil analysis) w/ Pennzoil Platinum at 6k changes FWIW. Like what everyone else said. When you look at any forum, you'll find varied responses from pretty much anyone. Modern engines in new cars are typically tested and "broken in" at the manufacturing facility as part of the QC process. That being said, it can't hurt if you "baby" it the first 1k miles or so to "break it in." I can't find anything directly from Nissan, but here is BMW's production process.

Stupid question, what Nissan Ester. I did some research and is it full-synthetic? The dealer said to just use their typical oil for longevity and "original" performance. Again, I am new to this so hey.

I can't speak to the 7AT specifically because I have a 5AT but I will say that when I first bought my car I thought the transmission was lost and didn't know what gear I wanted it to be in. In the end I think it was the computer trying to learn my driving habits. This happens every time I've had to disconnect my battery, it will reset the ECU and have to relearn as I drive.
There are some TSB's for the 7AT so I don't know if they apply to you but may want to look into it anyway.
As far as the nissan ester goes there's so many opinions that I suggest you read more and learn as much as you can to make a decision. Most employees at infiniti I've talked to have no idea what nissan ester even is. Here is a good article about it and here is a more technical pdf showing nissans oil reaching a state close to superlubricity.
