Smile New in Austin

Hey, All,
I am new to the forum. I am in the market for a car and the G37 is on my list to look into. I like what I see so far and find the pricing for a used one to be in my range.
Thought I would hang out here to learn more about the G series. Tons of questions to come.
Thanks,
Dale

Welcome! I'm in Houston, there's a decently large G community in Texas.

Question

Thanks for the welcome. I am looking forward to learning more from you all. I am really leaning towards a G37. Not sure if I will go for a coupe or a sedan yet. I like em both. As I mentioned, I am looking at the used market. I do have a couple of questions (ok, more like a few dozen, but I will start slow).

Background:
I have always enjoyed driving more engaging cars. However, I really do look for reliability first. I tend to buy and car and drive the wheels off it. I have gotten over 200,000 miles on all but one car and I am still driving that one. Well, she is off the road for now, doing a few hops on my 87 944 Turbo. She is at 109,000. Hell, I drove a 1989 Ford Escort to 286,000 miles. I am an ok mechanic and do most of my basic maintenance myself (oil changes, brakes, plugs, etc). I am **** about fluids, not just oil, but all fluids (oil, tranny, rear end, coolant).

Cars I am considering:
VW GTI - damned fun car to drive, but I am worried about the maintenance side of things. I see that Consumer Reports shows them as avg for reliability. So, that is a ding on the GTI

Mazdaspeed3 - damned fun car to drive. Seems to be a reliable car as well. Excessive torque steer is a concern though.

Volvo C30/S60 - very nice cars, not as engaging as a G car or a GTI, but damned reliable and very comfortable cars.

Lexus IS250 - VERY reliable cars. However, even Consumer Reports says they are boring to drive. Not sure I would enjoy the experience of driving.

Infiniti G37 - the only one I ever driven was damned fun to drive. Very comfortable to be in as well. I do like the more luxury side of the car. Consumer Reports gives them an excellent rating for reliability too. Just how reliable is my key question for you guys here. Any good non-dealer mechanics in the Austin area?

Questions:
1) CPO car? Just what does a CPO car bring to table over a Carmax or any other dealer bring from a used car perspective?

2) CPO - how willing are the Infiniti dealers to deal on a used car? I am not looking to steal a car, but I do like to get a fair deal.

3) Over all life time costs of ownership? Just how much can one expect to spend over a 1 yr/10,000 mile year assuming I start with a 50,000 mile used car?

4) Factory warranty - what is the factory warranty and does that extended to a 2nd owner via a used car purchase?

5) TSBs - what are the key TSBs I need to be aware of and how can I check if the car I am considering has had the TSBs and all recall work, if any, done?

Ok, I will stop for now. I do have a ton more to ask, I ask for your patience in advance.

Dale
1987 Porsche 944 Turbo - the project car
1999 Ford Contour - the "I refuse to die" car
2000 Honda VFR800 - the grin machine

Thanks for the info. I am trying to register there and they are asking for the 2 letter prefix for the engines used in the G's. I just do not know that yet. Can you help me out here?

Lol. It's VQ.

Sometimes it takes a while for the staff to approve new members so be patient.

I met with Camey today. I agree that she is a delight to deal with. She did ask me who referred me to her. Can you PM me your contact info that I can send on to her. She definitely wants to reach out to say thank you at a minimum.

Ok, I popped down to Austin Infiniti today during lunch. I met with Camey Martinez and she was very polite and professional. She did take me on a test drive of a loaded 2013 G37 (I know, I know, the crack dealer angle.... "Here, kid, the first one is on me......") WOW, damned nice car. Excellent acceleration, amazing feel of the wheel, very responsive handling. Ride was quiet, yet taut, seating was OUTSTANDING. All in all, I am VERY impressed. Looks like a G is at the top of the list.

Just wanted to chime in on this thread, bought a 2012 G37 from Chris over at Austin Infiniti. Was really happy on the price I got on mine 23k, CPO, no nav. I have only had a few problems, but they have been quick to take care of them. How'd your experience go?
