Read this thread. Soak it all in (no pun) and make your own choices. You're going to be spending time picking an oil filter too.

https://www.myg37.com/forums/general...il-thread.html

I've read (urban myth?) that you don't want to switch to synthetic until changing the oil twice with dino. Once you go synthetic, figure a wide OCI between 6K to 9k, or once a year, whichever comes first. I do it at 7K, on the very unscientific principle of twice the dino OCI. And I've been using Penzoil Synthetic with K&N oil filters. There is no wrong answer.

And not for nothing, but these kinds of threads get you a much earned "Search" admonishment.

I just started using synthetic oil (Pennzoil Platinum), after doing lots of reading here, and on bobistheoilguy.com I'll be sticking to a 12,000 km interval. Which equals out to 7456 miles give or take. Hope this helps.

you opened a huge can of worms

as long as you change it within a reasonable amount of time, you will be fine

brand, type, mileage, etc is up to the user

Mines a lease, on my second G37x and I do regular oil changes every 4,000 miles with the dealer. The reccomended 3,750 is a silly number so I round up and make it easy to keep track of just like tire roations, manual says 7,500 I believe so I just do it every other oil change.

Being an '09 it's probably due for an @ss end oil change too. Maybe trans as well if you're the maintenance type.

another question, have any of you tried Rotella T6? I've used it in my BMW, F250 Powerstroke & currently use it in my Hayabusa. Its a heavier synthetic oil and fairly cheap!

I've used rotella T6 in all my bikes with excellent results. Would I use it in the G, absolutely not. It lacks the proper ratings.

OP, I'm running Penzoil Ultra with 5K change intervals, with OE/dealer filter, and I am happy with the color of the oil, acceleration, and mileage throughout the interval. I've read so many other UOAs for G37s, I'm not even bothering to get one done. I believe you must change within 7.5K in order to keep warranty coverage.

Between this board, the 370Z boards, and Bobistheoilguy, there are literally hundreds of UOAs that you can read, that folks have been kind enough to share, for G37s and 350 and 370Zs. Of course each engine is unique, and ideally you should have a UOA done on your own oil, but my point is, there is an OVERWHELMING amount of data out in cyberspace about what oils are preferred and the change intervals. After a certain level of analysis, it kinda gets like "what music is best" - take your pick.

OP. I run MOTUL 300V @ 5500 mile intervals, altho they recommend 9k if I recall. I just can't c myself waiting that long, just my preference. Might be an option to look into. It's a Kick A** synthetic btw!!
