newbie advise

Hey guys,

I am getting ready to purchase my first car which is going to either be a 2011 silver g37x sedan or black g37 journey sedan. I don't know much about cars but I will roughly have 2-3Gs leftover to spend on mods. Right now I am looking for purely appearance mods until I get more money/do more research. Any suggestions from you guys? I am leaning towards these things...

1) window tint
2) tail light tint
3) black wheels

I was planning to do the wheels last because most likely I should get bigger ones right? If so, then I assume new tires would also be needed so I want to use up the new ones the dealer slapped on first. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the site. If you don't need AWD then I'd get the RWD G, there's better selection of mods and if you want to eventually lower it and get staggered wheels you won't have as many issues. Either one is a great car though
If you can DIY some things I'd suggest painting your tailights rather than a tint film, they'll look better and it's a very easy project to do yourself.

Wheels is highly subjective, if you want bigger 20" wheels they really don't look quite right on a stock higher suspension so keep that in mind when shopping. If you plan to keep your suspension stock then a nice 18 or 19" wheel will look better. If you click on my garage link mine is dropped pretty low w/ coilover suspension and 20" black wheels just for reference.
Have fun w/ your car search & when you bring it home we're here to help

First mod = KWv3 coilovers. Around 2k or so and you will notice a huge handling difference.

Personal opinion: as far as wheels go, lighter is better. I went big first and liked the look, but the unsprung weight slowed me down. A lot. If you're stuck on going with 20's, spend the money and get light ones.

still in negotiations with the dealer on the black RWD one. I like black on black much better. I had to walk from the guy but he left a message saying he was willing to drop the price more so hopefully tomorrow I will have a new 2011 G37 Sedan. I think I may go with 18s or 19s for the wheels do you know if the new tires the dealer slapped on for the 17s will be able to work with either or both?

Your 17" tires will only work for 17" rims. If you live in a place w/ a lot of snow might want to save them for a winter set and get 18s or 19s for your summer wheels. If you live in a warmer area you could sell your 17" wheels & new tires to offset some of the cost of your new set.

Here's my DIY link on taillight painting (in the link is a couple more DIYs from other members) give it a good read and if you still have questions shoot me a PM. With my precut patterns to stick on the taillights it's a pretty easy job IMO. Good luck w/ your car transaction, shoot some pics when you get it done

well finally put the deposit on a 2010 RWD G with only 26k miles. monday i'm taking it for inspection at a mechanic and if it passes then I'll have some pics for you guys monday night. I think I'll go with the 19s until I save up the funds for suspension. Can I get those precut patterns from you still blnewt? I was going to paint my grille but I like the carbon wrap on yours so I think I'll do the same. I also want the OEM front and rear spoilers. anybody got suggestions of the best place to get them and what kind of place I could get them installed?

I just got some more vinyl today so shoot me a private message and I'll get you the details. As far as the grill wrap, most places that do vehicle wraps should be able to do it for you, even some graphic shops do that stuff on the side sometimes. The OEM spoilers are a pretty simple install. Should be able to find the spoilers at your local Infiniti dealer, most prices are similar w/ dealers & places like discountinfinitiparts.com, price might be a bit cheaper online but often times you don't pay the shipping when going through the dealer so not much difference in price. Might check Ebay too, a few Infiniti dealers also list their parts there. Beware of knockoff spoilers, some come unpainted or the fit/quality may be second rate.
The RWD sedans come standard w/ 17" rims, 18" rims are on the S model or the wheel upgrade pkg. 19s are only available on the coupes from the factory.

I'll talk to the dealer about the spoilers. I'll also see if I can find a place to do the grill wrap. I have 17s on mine but I'm gonna upgrade to 19s and get some new tires probably. I'll also send you a message about the vinyl!

When you're ready to shop for wheels be sure to post any questions in this section, plenty of help over there for wheel fitment and good info in the threads.

Also you can typically save quite a bit of money picking up used sets here in the marketplace, especially if the seller is close enough to avoid shipping.

So I'm missing something on the window trim because it seems extremely expensive and unavailable in 12x60

Just click this link and hit "select vinyl size" and select 1ftx5ft, should be a total of $14.99 (the 5.99 starting price, then the +$9 size selection)
Hope that helps, and they're the best vinyl supplier IMO, great prices, service & shipping

Just take your time and lightly tack the vinyl until you're happy w/ its' placement, you'll be fine
